There were plenty in Paphos last week! We've been over twice in the space of a week and the harbour area was packed.

There are no available hotel rooms in every single one of the Limassol hotels at the moment. From the most cheapest to the most expensive. Everywhere i called (4 seasons, Amathus, Appolonia, Holiday Inn, Old bridge, L'onda etc etc) the only place that had any room at the inn so to speak, was Le Meridien. Every year ppl say there are less and less tourists, but why are the hotels fully booked? Its bad for me at my work having to book rooms for our guest and finding no where to put them.

The high cost of air fares, the high cost of the CY£ against sterling are two of the main reasons for the tourist droppping off rate.I have a 2 bed apartment in Peyia and have not been able to visit due to these reasons, also trying to rent it out is a waste of time as people can get a fortnight all inclusive deal to other(cleaner and cheaper) countries for the price of an air fare to Cyprus. It is very sad but I really wish I had not bought in Cyprus and am now hoping I can sell it to people with more money than me!

Another reason for the drop in the tourist trade might be the fact that the RoC is becoming more like the Costa-del-Sol. Too many Brits, bars, brawls. Global warming, maybe. At easter I caught a bad chill on my return to the UK, I landed in the middle of a heat wave.

Not to mention the fact that big complexes such as Eden Beach, Roussos Beach etc have closed their apartment buildings to be revamped into expensive, luxury private apartments and turned them over to the developers. It's no wonder there is a lack of accommodation.

I made a cost comparison on "Kikapu's time in Cyprus" few days ago, on 2 weeks spent in Cyprus, 2 weeks in Spain and 2 weeks in the USA on a similar itinerary. The cost for two people was more or less the same for all three destinations, so people have choices as to where to travel.

I have only came here last week, and without any sort of statistical information all I can say is a viewpoint.

I think, people are realising there are better places to visit, and in reality Cyprus is almost like a third world country. The roads are poor, people are rude, prices are too high, the place is filthy...
Sure, it has lovely beaches... but that will only please for a little while...
