Have you ever been to the music festival held each year in Turkey. I watched a program on it once and it was fantastic though short. Dancers from all over the world and folk music too. I want to study this in detail when I get the time to do so and it might have to wait until I retire. The Ottoman empire seems to have mixed up all these traditions really well but each still has a small distinct difference that makes them special too. |
Just like the foods. Most of the Mediteranean, North African, the levant, the Balkans , I simply call them Ottoman food, with local flavours.
I suppose we have to own up as the pesky Greeks will declare everything Greek, a la Turkish Lokoumia, Turkish Delight, lokum, whatever. |

Don't be silly mate....All we ever did was kill anything that moved. I once bought a world fact book and all it said about the Ottoman Empire was...."Did not contribute anything useful to the world". All we had was the Lokum and they have taken that from us as well.....Boohoo! We can still call ours Turkish Delights though hehehehehe! The book burned well. |

Hey zan, are you talking about 23 Nisan? The childrens day? Or are you talking about another one with adult dancers? |

I think it's the one in Ankara on this list:

I really thought there was only one but it seems there are many more so I am not sure now. It is a famous festival according o the narrator. |

OMG you have to listen to these songs people. It's Cypriots singing together. Most of the songs are sung in both languages, some are just Turkish & Greek, and some instrumentals. It's a really good album.
