Why don't you send an email to admin?

Rather then posting a stupid remark on a posting that has nothing to do with your comments!!!

Although racist remarks are not allowed, along with other behaviour which is regarded as improper, if all postings which crossed the line were edited or deleted, some threads would make no sense.

Admin prefers the 'light touch' so that only when people go too far with their comments - or a thread becomes serial name calling, is it necessary for the Moderator or Admin to step in.

No-one wants censorship and every effort is made to avoid it.

There is a world of difference between censorship and deleting offensive posts. I admit though that moderating here would be a full-time job, so bad has the disrespect become, even down to accusations of crimes such as embezzlement: that is more than an ad hominem attack because, if the accusation were false, then the forum itself could be considered libellous, even with all the disclaimers in the world. I must admit, 'the light touch' is not good enough, IMHO. For a start, any post in any board that drifts into Greco-Turkish relations of any sort should be IMMEDIATELY moved to the Cyprus Problem board; that is not censorship, as you delete nothing. There are even such posts in the funnies board. Nor is it censorship to remove offensive language: you even have the possibility to do it automatically in the BB administration, so that would require no manual monitoring. I use that feature for half-a-dozen words in my forums and it works very well.

"Although racist remarks are not allowed, along with other behaviour which is regarded as improper, if all postings which crossed the line were edited or deleted, some threads would make no sense. " That is nonsense, if I may say so. If it were found that offensive posts were being edited or removed, members would stop making offensive posts. You have the possibility of removing offensive words or sentences and replacing them with standard phrases like "Racist sentence removed by moderator". It would allow the context of the thread to be preserved.

Finally, a recent poll overwhelmingly showed that religious themes were unwelcome in General Chat. What has been done to satisfy the wishes of the members? Nothing. As I write this, the second top thread in the list is "THE TRUE MESSAGE OF JESUS CHRIST" which is nothing of the sort but a manifestation of Islamic extremism. I am not a religious person, at least in the sense that I never go to church to worship God, but I have studied religion and, to some extent, comparative religion and was once even ordained as a deacon. I therefore consider myself qualified to state that many posts, made by members purporting to belong to a number of different faiths are simply blasphemous, even against their own faith. What kind of forum encourages blasphemy? I know numbers here have been offended by this, yet it appears you passively encourage it. You are losing support and your active membership remains largely those who post the least desirable messages. It may be too late, but that "light touch" must become heavier, should you wish to remain credible.

Hello,

I agree with you that more could be done without crossing the line to censorship but doing so correctly would require more resources which are not currently available. Members who would like to help could report to me via PM the posts they believe to be offensive. Members have been warned and banned several times in the past for violating the rules so lets not give the wrong message that everything is allowed here.

"Although racist remarks are not allowed, along with other behaviour which is regarded as improper, if all postings which crossed the line were edited or deleted, some threads would make no sense. In my opinion there is a difference between an "offensive" word and an offensive message. This is a forum for adults and certain words could be used without being offensive (e.g. in a joke) while an offensive word could still be disguised and used in an offensive message even if an automatic filter is in place.

Finally, a recent poll overwhelmingly showed that religious themes were unwelcome in General Chat. What has been done to satisfy the wishes of the members? Nothing.

I have requested from those members to limit their religion related posts to the threads already active and they have done so. That thread remains at the top because some other members keep posting there.

Thanks

Why has "properties in the north are such a "steal"" not been moved to Cyprus Problem?

"Killing Baby Girls" is ending up as a racist diatribe with politics thrown in.

"Patriotism" is what it says, racist.

etc.

I'm not trying to promote censorship but General Chat is now unpleasant because certain are using it for agenda which are far from General. For goodness' sake, please move these threads away to more appropriate boards.

Hello,

I will have a look at those threads and will move them as necessary. As you understand the forum is not a full time job for me or the moderators and if you would like to help you can always send a PM to us with any suggestions.

Thanks
