Nice photos Halil! I also went to Luricina "panayir" on many occasions. Late Ismail Sadikoglu was a good family friend at the time (1962-63), and he also was from Luricina. I remember it was great fun as a small child plus good food.
The only thing I am not sure about is how, subsequently, most TCs in Luricina could not speak Turkish but only Greek? Even those who settled in London before 1964 speak better Greek than Turkish...
As for Kirni, I am surprised Iceman does not know it has running water! Probably because he knows it as "Pinarbasi". Lovely location where there is always a breeze. Very scary runway rhough, especially when the wind blows in the wrong direction you have to take off against the mountain! |

Very touching story Halil. I am sure this was repeated over many times. It is sad that small children will have to remember these sad days.
Get Real you are right in assuming the Turkish help we received from Turkey after 1963, and 1974. Without that help (financial or otherwise) the dream of the Enosisist would have come true. As a true Cypriot you would not want that , now, would you? After all that has been said we will agree that the position of any military presence on Cyprus is unnecessay. Let us work towards that.
Regards
Deniz
NB: Just read that out door picnics in the North have been banned. What a shame. There goes the kebab picnics. |

| That was really interesting Mehmet, I think I mentioned to you some time ago that my father came from Komi Kebir. His family home is now occupied by former TC neighbours of his who wanted a better house. I did not realise that the settlers were in the majority there now. Most of the Turkish Cypriots stayed in the village with their GC neighbours after 1963/4. I was told that the last GCs left about 1976, apparently they were given a couple of days to pack up and leave or else they would be removed by force - so they left. |

I think they should be banned every summer since our people are not responsible enough not to destroy the nature! Only those designated areas privately owned such as the similar ones in Turkey called "Kendin Pisir Kendin Ye" should be open to public between June and September! Failing that, nothing like the BBQ in your garden!
The only other time I ever cried since the age of 8 was a when a close relative died in a car crash prior to when I cried like a baby, when I saw the Kyrenia range burning on TV in 1995 (I was on holiday in London for a month at the time). What a senseless, selfish and cruel waste of hundreds of years of nature's work! |

Iceman; You ARE wicked, Troodos da vatanimizdir. I know you are joking. I hate forest fires. Like BigOz I cried watching a forest fire from a distance on the Pentadaktylos, near Bladan. I was prevented from going to help because I was a guest at the village. I think I was 14 at the time.

Good luck with your souvla in the near future. I have my Molohiya / Moloha on a slow cook since this morning and will thoroughly enjoy it tonight which is a Bi-Annual Molohiya /Moloha cooking event / celebration for me here in Switzerland.
With the help of the freezer, the leftovers will be eaten within the next month or so. |
