| T-2 are you a wine lover? If yes think of taking a taxi to Omodhos village, where there are several new wineries, for a tasting session. New grape varieties introduced in the area are now yielding good reds from Syrah, Cabernet and Grenache. Interesting but only if you are into wine. You would have to hire the taxi for all that time and the cost is a factor. |

The bus only takes local currency (still Cyprus pounds until the end of the this year when we adopt the euro) of course, but the driver is able to give change and they are quite happy to handle banknotes. As it happens, the buses tend to be virtually empty on the section between the New Port and the town so even if there are 30-40 people this shouldn't present a problem. I would ask the driver to drop you off at the Old Port (all the drivers on this route speak at least some English), and head inland from here to reach the old town centre. This journey will take 15 minutes at the most. As it happens, the route numbers ARE clearly shown at every bus stop.
I think the Cyprus Tourist Organisation has an office at the port so you can make enquiries there as well when you arrive. |

| Oops - I have just noticed that you are arriving in January. Cyprus is adopting the euro as of 1 January 2008, so forget what I said about Cyprus pounds. All you need is euros. |

| Personally I would opt for a free trip around the Keo brewery. |

While not a wine lover myself- we are ourselves a group of 10 so far and some are definitely wine enthusiasts. We're anticipating meeting other English speaking passengers onboard as well so we'll be sharing your info and those on other departure dates are also reading this info that I'm sharing on a cruise thread.
This is huge news that you are switching to the Euro, I know some were worried that perhaps they should try to buy some local currency for Cyprus before setting sail. For ourselves, your input has been invaluable- nice to know the bus won't panic if there turn out to be quite a few of us. We're now really looking forward to this first visit your lovely island, we'd been a bit concerned as English passengers onboard are low in numbers, not always enough of us for there to be a tour offered. The ship carries mostly Italians, Germans, French, etc. So we're much relieved to have such a delightful visit worked out. I'll still check back in case any other ideas are out there that you want me to post for cruisers, and Thank You! |
