The issue of being a Cypriot

Dear Sirs,

When you say Cypriot, You mean Greek speaking Cypriots. I am a Turkish speaking Cypriot. As Cypriot as Greek speaking. We are all Cypriots. I have Greek speaking Cypriot friends and we have no problems. Time to time when articles appears anti Greek, or like your article anti Turk, I know one thing that division widens.
All Cypriots are my countrymen. We speak Turkish or Greek but we have lots of things in common. One of the important and not realized by most people is that we all speak in Roman accent. That's called Cypriot accent.
Cyprus is not Greek or Turk. Get this into your brain. Long time ago I was in Ireland and I was looking for a visa to work there. When they asked me who I am, I said Turkish Cypriot. I hat to show my Cyprus Passport. The Person at the time looked at me and said You don't even know who you are. You are a Cypriot regardless what you speak. I speak English. That doesn't make me English. I am Irish he said.I thought with embarrassment and I realized he knew me more than I knew myself.
The reality is that to call spade a spade, both side of Cyprus, you will find people are in the wrong mentality. Just to give you example. I want the division to be lifted. when I read your article, I want the division to remain. I am sure many people will think the same as me.
If you don't want to see partition in Cyprus, You should be protecting all Cypriots.
I want all the people who claims to be Greek or Turk to live the Island. Whoever realize that we are all Cypriots, regardless what language they speak, they are the only ones can lift the division for good on the island. Unfortunately they are out numbered at present time.
Seventy percent Australians are English descendent but they say they are Australian. Specially the ones came to Australia two hundred years ago and they are now 4th or 5th generation.
Cypriots generations goes back much longer than new country like Australia. We have to learn a lot from them.

Regards
Huseyin Kavaz

Hi pitsilos I am in total agreement we are one. Unfortunatly we have people on both sides of the divide that dont have the same mentallity. Many Cypriots still live in the past. GC's blaming TC's and TC's blaming GC's. It's a real shame as we are very a like. I live in London and have many TC friends, we have been friends for over thirty years since our school days.

this is nonsense actually, how can a cypriot who is greek forget his own culture, identity, history, blood so that there can be a fake cypriot nationality compromising greeks and turks in the stupid belief that this will lead to peace...comon wake up......only tolerating and respecting each others identities as greeks and turks will provide a solution......we are cypriots in the same sense as a bosnian croat or serb is a bosnian or a kosovar albanian is a kosovar

According to some so-called Turks and some so-called Greeks in this forum, this certain Huseyin Kavaz is nothing more than a so-called Cypriot, and this so-called Irish that looked at his so-called RoC so-called passport has made a so-called mistake, because so-called Cyprus is only a so-called country and just a so-called member of the so-called United so-called Nations (UN!)

There is a guy here and makes a positive statement and you mock him. Thats our problem.
Is he going to join the forum? He should be welcome by all Cypriots.

That's not what he was saying. He saying we are all Cypriots. Greeks & Turks. No one is saying we should forget that we are Greek or Turkish. We must look forward and not dwell on the past. We need to find a solution that will make both community's happy. We the GC's did treat the TC's badly in the 60's so we are as much to blame for the status quo that exists today. Yes the Turkish Army invaded and stole our land but if you think the TC's will just give our land back with out any assurances you are living in dream land. My Family lost property in 1974 we came from Varosha and I would love to be able to go there and see where my father grew up. But GC's need to stop and think what they actualy want a unified country or partitioned country. So yes we must be one Cypriots not TC or GC just Cypriots. Just for the record I did agree with the OXI vote we were giving to much up but I do believe Paps isnt doing enough to get the Cyprus problem resolved.
