old timer visiting Cyprus

Postby gordies » Mon Aug 27, 2007 10:42 pm

hello. my dad has the opportunity to have an apartment for 4 months throughout the 'winter' in Peyia OR Larnaca outskirts. He is terrified of not being able to fit in and doesnt want to be lonely on his own.

Is there a community 'centre' for UK visitors?

Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

thanks everyone, Gordon

UKCA in Larnaca (which is based on the Dhekalia Road) will make him more than welcome, I am sure. They have branches all over the island. +357 24818228. There is a huge community in Oroklini.

As per the advice you have been given on other forums you have posted on ~~ he will be fine ~~ Peyia is over run with brits and so are certain area's of Larnaca -- voroklini in particular.

Tell him to stop worrying and get his ticket booked.

Hi there

Peyia is a good choice as there is a large expat community there. It's also close to the unspoilt area of Polis/latchi where I live.
Lots of wintering Brits there - he can try the local church to meet people or just go to Polis sqare (and Peyia) to grab a coffee and just chat with othr locals. Tell him not to be afraid to just go up and talk to people - best way to meet them!

We also run a walking group in winter months - another good way to meet new people.

See the website below for more information on the western part of the island - see the walking page if he'd like to join a walking group...
