I think the whole discussion with Piratis got a bit heated when he started throwing abuse around. My fault also for allowing it to develop into that but what can you do when someone calls you a SOB etc.? The whole point of the forum is supposed to be about challenging stereotypes, promoting dialogue and finding a solution to problems amongst ourselves. With certain people, the dialogue seems to be about promoting antagonism and hate, I just don't get it.

Anyways, in future where certain individuals create an issue, I think I'll adopt the policy of 'turning the other cheek' and rising above insults, let's make this a place of real debate, not a slagging match.

Personally, I think the treatment that Piratis has received by some forum members is disgraceful.

I agree, and I admit to having been party to that at times for which I apologise to both Piratis and any other member of the forum who might have been offended. But you should also recognise that the treatment dealt out by Piratis shows a massive lack of respect for the opinions of some others. It's also inappropriate to be referred to as an 'SOB' as he labelled me today.

Given that I don't know the chap, it's all water off a ducks back to be honest, but there's a certain level of courtesy that one expects from fellow human beings, particularly in a forum such as this that attracts high-quality individuals, and general abuse is not what I expect to receive. If I wanted that I'd visit a chat room. So, it's not all one-way traffic mikkie, Piratis bears responsibility for his fair share of this also.

Since this site touches upon sensitive issues, in which people have first-hand involvement, we should expect heated arguments to arise, but it is possible to have these without them turning abusive.
