The authorities need to answer why the waste is there. Especially if they get so much from EU funds, as you said ,along with all the funds that they collect from taxes.Where do the money go? Into which pockets?
Also If anyone complained , the authorities wouldnt have been so tolerant with such matters. |

| Well done Antreis, very public spirited of you to try and get something done about this problem. I think a TV campaign against dumping litter is the least any government should do. I have mentioned this before but I'll bore you with it again; the police should enforce all the traffic laws in Cyprus especially against those little shits with the GTI stereos that insist on sharing there bass booming crap with everyone for miles around. Persons who break the traffic laws should do community service picking up litter (much of it is delivered by car). It would not be a very popular move but it could help solve two problems. |

A local school here in North spent a whole voluntary weekend cleaning up a beach area, everything was bagged up and then..............a big row between WHO was to collect it and dispose of it properly!! The local district said it couldnt afford to do it and the Nicosia district said it was outside their area!! Result? Dogs and foxes strewed the litter right back on the beach again!!! Locals called the environment minister, threatened them with the press, and hey presto, all re-cleaned and removed within 48 hours!!

great thread Antreis! thanks for posting it and making others aware of this ugly situation. hopefully it will make a difference.
there is nothing wrong with any one of us picking up some trash and disposing of it properly. someone might see you doing it and help out. even if it prevents them from littering, it's a good thing. this planet has sustained life for milleniums. wouldn't it be nice to thank her in some ways? |

The photos had a good result after all! But just by looking at the photos is not very obvious where exactly they are. Maybe you should get one of those digital cameras that have built in GPS. This way the authorities will know exactly where the trash is! It will be like Geocaching, the trash collectors might even get excited with playing this game all day |
