Its a universal problem. Trash everywhere. Would it be outsiders (including foreigners) who are causing this 'thrash' to be discarded willy nilly with no regard to the environment. Or should the local councils improve on their provisions of unwanted furniture etc.
I realise its the residents causing all this to begin with, but how do you educate them. This kind of dumping takes place in the UK as well. My grand daughter came home from school (Enfield area) one day with her note book on the environment. I heard her lecturing her mother on the types of rubbish she can put in what colour bins. She is nine, but the educating is coming. It should be part of 'Citizenship' studies. In TC schools we had 'Yurttashlik' once . similar to 'Citizenship Studies. Maybe they ought to include environmental studies in it too. Apologies if they already do.
An annoying menace , everywhere. Good luck to the councils.
Regards

I know that trash is a very boring subject to discuss or view but trash and rubbish rule all over Cyprus.

Well yes and no
I've seen recycling bins in Nicosia but when I commented about it to a police woman friend she laughed and said it was only for show as the bins are taken to the same place as the rest of the collected rubbish
This was a year or so ago so it might have changed ~~ but somehow I doubt it

There is Green Dot :
http://www.cydot.com.cy/
Of course as Bill said above nothing has changed yet. I have my doubts that the Green Dot program will work efficiently in the near future.
One of the major problems is that people in general are not familiar with the recycling procedure.

P.S.By the way recycling bins are already in Limassol as well and used as regular bins by the majority of the people.
In addition the brown bins that are supposed to be used for paper are missing. |

The worst i've seen was when we went for a walking trip in the mountains, somewhere on the way to Platres, there was a hill covered with garbage, spoiled a beautiful view... that was about 10 years ago, maybe they cleaned it by now Is not seen from the main road |
