reached the used by date?
I hear 2 new bases are under construction
Lebanon
Kurdistan
Why would the US built a base in Kurdistan, if the turkish one is up the road?...why go to all this expence?
Could it be that the US is looking at turkey as an unreliable future partner, especially after saying no to the US for the Iraq invasion?
Aslo wouldn't that piss of the turks that this signals the establishment of Kurdistan and will be under the protection of the US?...something the turks look at as an anathema to their own problems?
Another point that has been overlooked...when Israel bombed Syria, they Isarelis never asked for permission from the turks to use their airspace...kinda got caught with their pants down asking questions about it after the even...some alliance... |

Boomerang,
I've heard/read nothing about a US base in Lebanon. Are you sure ? Have you got a source for this story ? Where is it ? Naval ? Air ?
US bases in Iraq, including Kurdish Iraq is well known, though it seems to me a very long shot for the US to strategically favour basing rights in an unstable Iraq over a stable Turkey (which is also a NATO member). Though you never know. |

The US withdrawal from Iraq won't be a final withdrawal as many seem to think...
They're talking about halving the number... That's all...
And the base being built just outside Hewlêr in Iraqi Kurdistan is no joke either - it's got one of the world's longest air stripes... When finished, it'll be well over 5 KMs long...
"Turkey is like so yesterday..." |

Is Erbil AIrport actually used by military planes?
As far as I know it is a commercial airport for civil aviation. |
