belly dance is the oldest form of dance, originally done by women, for women, to celebrate our feminity and get us ready fro childbirth. there was nothing sexual about it originally. in more recent times, it was brought into clubs as a form of entertainment for men.
lots of cultures have bellydance, including the american tribal style. and there are differences between greek and turkish styles, i don't know what they are, which is why i want to take a lesson. just listen to the music, the music is totally different, hence the style would also be different.

in most of the places in limassol there is usually some russian woman who does something called belly dancing, and it is no where close to the real belly dancing.
i saw a cypriot woman belly dancing and she was really good, she was a professional.
cypriot women in general i think like to bellydance, when i see any cypriot woman dancing she is usually trying to make the moves of a belly dancer.

Seen Egyptioan belly dancers, with the full quivering flesh thing, and it was part of family entertainment in Egypt. Belly dancers would be invited to dance at family occasions like weddings etc.
Tsifteteli, the Greek/ Turkish version of belly dancing is OK if women are dancing together or alone. As soon as guys join in it spoils it. Men look so dumb trying to shake parts of the body they do not possess!
In Greece the belly dancers who come out in clubs to do a dance around are almost always non Greek. And the most renowned teacher here is American and in her 60s. If you want her name and address GG I can try and get it for you.

The first lady was OK. But Chryssanthi Sahar in the second video is EXCELLENT!!! She was the one who I was talking about when I said I know some fabulous ladies in Greece in my coments above. Her and another dancer from Greece, Maria Aya are super belly dancers. Chryssanthi can dance a killer Ciftetelli while Maria is a great Arabic style dancer....
Since you put up Chryssanthi, I'll post a fabulous video of Maria...she made this video for a male dancer after joking about doing a Kitchen Baldadi (a kitchen belly dance). It started off as a joke but I think she did a fabulous job of it and I absolutely love this video.
BTW Natty, your videos aren't working because you're going to youtube.CO.UK which the forums youtube script thingy isn't recognising. Go to youtube.COM and paste those codes instead of the UK ones.
