NEW and YOUNG politicians are required

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

NEW and YOUNG politicians are required

Postby michalis5354 » Tue Apr 06, 2004 5:08 pm

I said many times here that Cyprus needs New and Young politicians with NEW different ideas that are capable of bringing change at all levels.

I am against the current approach that Papadopoulos is approaching the Cyprus Issue. He is not flexible at all. And he handles the whole issue with negative approach. He is a politician of the 60s , I shouldnt expected more from him.

I expected for him long time ago , to spend time and explain to the public the real provisions of the UN plan in order for the public to be aware in advance before the referendums. Still today he has not done so. And people are going to form their own opinions 1-2 days maybe prior to the referendum which is unacceptable. Even kofi Anan has warned both leaders in cyprus to spend time and inform their people about the real provisions of the plan and especially the benefits of the plan. No public source has done so , so far and I m loosing faith in them.

People have been left alone to form their own opinions based on the information published by the media which in most times do not reflect the reality . I hope I am wrong , but thats the perception I get from reading some newspapers sites.

Of course there are some voices different and exceptional , I hope these are enough to bring a positive result at the referendums.

Cyprus has a bright future If NEW and YOUNG politicians come to power and not seen the same Old faces over and over again.

In general I don't disagree that new politicians are a good idea.

But the very wrong assumption that you make is that "new politicians" will be the ones that agree with you.

-The organizations of young people where among the first to say "no" to the Annan plan.
-Many students demonstrated against the plan, non for the plan.
-A recent poll that broke down the results according to age showed that 90% of young people did not support the plan, which was about the same with all other ages.

He is a politician of the 60s , I shouldnt expected more from him.

His opponents said the above several times before the elections. He won the elections from the first round.

Good thing that we still have democracy.

Anyway I am not going to discuss about Papadopoulos here because I can write pages and pages . This is not the topic here.

I mean the system does not encourage new and young people to get involved with politics that is the true . Just look Internationally and see which countries at this century have leaders being involved with politics for so long and being especially so Old . These people can never bring Change and tell me which real Change have you seen by the time papadopoulos has been elected.

If Papadopoulos represents the Republic of Cyprus which he claims that he does he ought to behave in such a way as to represent also the Turkishcypriots because legally Turkishcypriots are a part of the republic. I would like to see a research among the Turkishcypriots to see how many of them really trust Papadopoulos.

I wrote above what exactly I expected from him long time ago and tell me If ask too much from him. Just very simple leadership duties thats all.

Ok thats enough about him! The two big parties in cyprus , Akel and Dysi are going to Vote Yes to the plan as I have read today. Regarding Papadopoulos I have not doubt that he will suggest to reject the plan .

Yes the Organisation of the young people were the first to say NO. This is not a suprise to me as No Objective Analysis has been published so far about the UN plan from Authorities. And this reveals how much Effort Cyprus needs to put in ,in order to be a european country!

You have the right to disagree.
I am sure you said the same things about Papadopoulos before the elections and that you didn't vote for him.
You can disagree with him, you can really really hate him if you want. The fact is that he was elected as president and everybody has to respect that.

Some shocking news for Michalis from CyBC latest poll:

The "no" vote is higher within young people and people with higher education.

The highest support for the Annan plan (still not much) is from people over 65 years old.

Are these the shocking news? I Am not shocked at all.

Papadopoulos do not even represent the majority of the GCs , If both the big parties AKEL And DUSI have expressed strongly their disagreement and their disapointment on the last speech made by him, Papadopoulos do not even represent the GCS anymore .

In my opinion he need to RESIGN soon. Any european leader could have resigned long time ago If he was in his option

It is clear to everybody that AKEL and DUSY support a "yes" and still the "yes" vote is less than 10%.

Me and my family voted for AKEL in last elections and now we will vote "no".

The real will of people comes from the polls, and will come with the referendum and nobody will be able to doubt about it anymore.

of course you want him to resign! You didn't vote for him and you wished he was not there in the first place. We (the people that voted for him - the majority) support him.
He will be there on April 24th, and on May 1st either you like it or not!
