hello to everyone in cyprus,
we have our house on the market, here in the north east of england, and as soon as we have a buyer, and the sale is finalised, we are heading out to join you's lot, for sun, sea and sand.

we wish to be retired, and not need to claim any benefits, and we think it might be better to rent somewhere first, untill we see where we would like to live. i think i will take the advice of lots of posters i have seen on the cyprus forums and rent first, get a feel for the place first, etc.

are there any tips anyone could tell me, or any advice?
any suggestions or advice welcome.

I love Larnaca but I was raised here so I might be a bit biased. Laughing
I think along with Paphos they are the less busy and quiet places to live, and Larnaca (30mins from Nicosia, 40mins from Limassol) has the most ideal location.
And with all the money and work thats going in now for improving the main town, I think its gonna turn into a lovely place to be.

hi raiseurfist,
thanks for replying. i will take notice of the places you have mentioned.
we have made a firm decision to live in cyprus, its just a matter of when ??? afterall, house sales are moving very slowly here. we have the house on the market with 4 estate agents and willing to drop the price quite a bit, and hope to move straight out there.

we have a 6 yr old son, who we hope to put into an english private school and are hoping to find a place to live , within a rasonable distance from a good school. also in a nice area, not too expensive and not in the heart of a busy tourist area.
we have a dog and hope this wouldnt be a problem with renting somewhere.
after seeing various sites and forums, we gather it would be better to sell the car first, rather than ship it out there.
would you reccommend buying or renting first, and if we did choose to buy, if we changed our mind about locations, is it normal waiting times to get a buyer, or would the house be on sale for a long time?
many thanks
much appreciated

I hope that your plans all work out for you. My little bit of advice is, don't move here in July/August as it is VERY hot!!! Try to time your move so that you can explore and enjoy without the heat-stroke!!

hiya tess,
thats easier said than done. as soon as a sale is through, we will be homeless, and also so eager to go to cyprus, we will be over like a shot.
we have a place in the canaries, for our holidays, so we have experienced 'heat' !!
we are so desperate to move on with our lives and settle somewhere new, nothing will stop us from jumping on the next plane.
but thaks for the advice and i will know to smear the protective sun tan lotion all over us. we just cant wait. we are ill with it .

Hiya Wizzy

I have been to most of the Canary islands on holiday and even though I found it hot and sometimes somewhat humid - it does not compare to the hot sticky days and nights of Cyprus. That is how I feel anyway!

The summer months are horrendously hot (quite often in the high 30's and even early 40's on some days!) and shall we say 'claggy'!!
The heat and humidity is terrible and very uncomfortable to say the least, so just be warned that you may find it unbearable at first! You will no doubt acclimatise in time - but it is still hot!!
Just remember to keep your fluids up - and I do not mean alcohol! Laughing Laughing

Hope this helps

Hi Wizzy

We live in Ingeby Barwick nr Yarm, you must know cos its the biggest housing estate in Europe Laughing Laughing

I am worried about my kids in school over there,if they`ll settle or struggle with the language and what the future holds for them when they leave school.

We have a villa in Liopetri so the accomodation is already sorted if we decide to go. Confused
