Hi there,
I would like to find out more about Cyprus's Military service.
I was born in South Africa, but my father is Cypriot (Greek).
I have applied and received my Cypriot passport.
My wife and I (She has a Dutch passport), would like to work in Europe for a while.
Do I need to go to the Cyprus army before being allowed to work in the rest of Europe? (i.e. England or Switzerland or...)
Thank you! |

I don't think going to work in Europe presents a problem but going to live in Cyprus may do as they will require you to do 6 months in the army as you have a Cypriot father.
The UK and other European countries are not interested in whether you have done your Cyprus national service and wouldn't even ask but the Cypriot authorities certainly will if you intend to live here.
Enjoy Europe .

Janakies, you'd have favourable treatment if you do decide to move to the U.K. or Cyprus from South Africa,as there are agreements between some British Commonwealth member states that allows you to work without restrictions in some cases. As for dual citizenship,South Africa is a country that DOES allow dual citizenship.I don't know if Cyprus allows dual citizenship. Can anyone please clarify?
