Would someone be kind enough to let me know a typical and fair (i.e. not rip off!) summer taxi fare from Paphos Airport to central Paphos? We'll be staying in an apartment not far from the King Jason Hotel.
TIA

I wouldn't be able to tell you a price but what I will say to you is have a look at the metre as soon as you get in. Taxi Cabs here have a habbit of getting the metre running a few minutes before the fair gets in to make a bigger profit. Just keep your eye on that.
You can barter with them before hand saying how much do you want for journy a to b. |

Thanks for the reply!
It's the barter aspect that interests me! If I know what is a fair price I will know if they are trying to rob me and I will be able to argue my point by showing that I know what the fare really should be.
We were there in February but we pre-arranged to pick up a hire car at the airport so we never got to experience a taxi ride. Summer car hire prices are just a bit too high for us to afford a hire car for a full 2 weeks in July.
Thanks again,
Simon H |

I can't remember how much we payed for taxis to Paphos. I would expect to pay somewhere between 20 and 30 CYP pounds, but I could quite easilly be wrong about it - the last time I visited was with a tour-group |

| The safest way is to insist on the meter BEFORE you get in the taxi. You can bet your bottom dollar that any negotiated price will be a lot higher than that. The metered cost is controlled. From Larnaka airport to here, which I would guess to be a similar distance from Paphos airport to Paphos centre, I pay between £7 and £8 on the meter. The taxi driver cannot insist on not using the meter (theoretically he has the obligation, but this is Cyprus and obligations become "if it suits"). |

agh.. this sucks. I mean I'm often using the taxi to move from Ayia Napa to Prwtaras and Paralimni, and I always check the metre. It's always like £2 forwards. Private [and public?] transport in Cyprus are really messed up. |
