Wages will have to rise in Cyprus to keep in step,or business will have to cut it's profit margins.
It is a no win scenario,in the short term... |
No offense to my Cypriot friends, but I haven't seen anything that is forecast in the long run in Cyprus...seems to me quick fixes are the order of the day. |

Well... you can`t compare Cyprus with others UE countries. Why? Because expensive countries, normaly, have good salary avarage. In Portugal you can drink a beer, in a good disco, just with 1,5 Euro. But the salary here is like sh...
About Cyprus is strange, the feeling i have is that Cyprus is a expensive country but the salary, in general, isn`t soo good. Am I right? |
The average salary was 400-450 Cypriot pounds a month. Who can live on that and pay the bills |

they should have installed windmills all over the Akrotiri, screw the bases... that would electrify whole Limassol if not more... is almost always windy there with steady seasonal wind directions (WSW in summer and E in the winter).
If not wind, then SOLAR!!! Free electricity 90% of the time!!! I am so pissed off that i have to pay 500Euros EAC bill on average... |
I agree, even though if the bases close my wife would loose her job. Aren't there grants for using solar energy in private residences.
I'm fed up with paying more in electricity than my mortgage!!! |

As far as I can tell you should be *really* happy to land more than £700CYP a month (social insurance already catered for, and tax is nothing for that much I believe). Even if you are fully qualified, have loads of experience, with a degree etc etc. From what I hear holidays and sickness pay is a bit daft just to make things more annoying. Personally I currently contract for a company in the UK, so don't have to worry just yet...
Been here about a year and a half and I haven't seen much thats cheaper. Pretty much all tax is cheaper (eg. council tax, business tax etc etc) and rent/house prices is a little lower, but most stuff you get from shops or restaurants do not leave me laughing at all moneywise compared to the UK. And electric prices are totally nuts.

I still eat out cheaply in Cyprus.Fruit, veg and meat seem to be cheaper if you buy local. As I don't drink I find soft drinks expensive.
In a average week I still seem to be saving 30% compared to the UK. |

That sounds about right purdey ~ if not more if you are careful
The only real problem is the electric bill ~ especially if you are all electric like I am.

I read somewhere that the average salary is between 500-600 CYpounds.
But to be honest 2 of my friends get less than that,1 about 500, few (10?) a bit more than the 600 and the rest of people I know over 800 (and to be fair lots of them work for the government). Especially the ones that work for years in the government like police, hospital etc.
The only one who struggle is the 2 that get less than the average salary but still they pay some loan and are able to go for few days holidays within Cyprus every now and then. Of course they are young and still live with parents so they dont pay rent and bill. |
