Having lived in Norway for the better part of 14 years, I've come to the realization that Cyprus is too expensive to live in for the common worker.
Although I make a comfortable living...the ordinary Cypriot or EU citizen must be seriously thinking of leaving due to the high cost of living. I've heard that the next electricity bill will be 30 to 40 percent higher due to fuel costs, soon there will be rationing of water.
The Cypriot economy coupled with the econonic nightmare of unification will most likely drive inflation to an all time high. Is Cyprus still worth living in? |

Greek.God, I live alone in a 2 bed appartment. My last electricity bill came to 226 Euros. Thats a fair chunk out of my wages. Working it out, it will work out cheaper to start eating take-aways as my hob/oven are Electric, so that should save a few quid.
Unless something drastic happens, then either people will be leaving the Island, taking out loans to cover their costs and falling deeper in debt or turning to illegal activities to be able to keep their heads above water.
The summer will be a nightmare as with my thyroid problem, I suffer very badly in the heat, yet I won't be able to put the aircon units off because of the high costs |

Hazza, I sympathize with your plight. My last electric bill was 400 euros. Summer is also going to kill me as I can't sleep without the AC. If the mosquitos don't kill me the bill will.
I am already exploring job opportunities in the States, as I fear even with a dual income...I hate working just to pay the bills. Good Luck |

In relation to other EU countries no.In respect of the tourist yes.In respect of the ordinary Cypriot family yes.
I had this discussion last week with a Cypriot friend. He has two children at university in England,he earns £30,000 GB a year.He has land which he is selling (in Alassa) he intends to live in the UK in the next two years. |

Hi Everyone
Me and my family would love to live in cyprus but with the rising costs and price of property going up we could not afford to live in cyprus from what we earn in the uk together we proberly bring in about £48,000.00 a year we not get that in cyprus as i'm a regional service manager for a flooring company and my wife is a loans adviser. I could not see us having these type of jobs in cyprus. |

Electricity is a little higher than the UK but only a little.
Tax is much less, council tax is a tenth of the UK, fuel is a third less, mobile phones are far less...it's not all doom!
The big downside is the wages. |
