Please help...Holiday worries.

Postby sami » Thu Apr 03, 2008 10:20 pm

I know you are probably all really fed up with people asking queustions like this but.... we (a family of 3) are coming back to cyprus for the 4th year on the trot and although we have never found cyprus cheap, we are quite worried about the price increase's we've heard of. We want to be able to enjoy it as much as ever. We love to go to all the water parks, on excursions, hire a car for afew days and do some water sports. We also stay at the Hotel Papantonia on a self catering basis as we love to try all the different restaurants. But we only normally eat out for evening meal. We are not big drinkers. We usually take about £1200-1500 (sterling) but we have come back every year with spare money. Will this be enough money for our 2 week holiday this year? If anyone can help please do to put my mind at ease, i want to start getting excited not worried x x x

Costs have increased since last year and as previously mentioned the Euro rate against sterling is abysmal. The Island is becoming a very expensive place for visitors, however this is probably because visitors predominantly stay, shop, eat and seek their entertainment in touristy places where prices more often than not reflect the customers ability to pay.
We go out to eat, as a family, off the beaten track & can do it very cheaply exchanging perhaps a corrugated iron or simply tiled roof for 5 star interiors as our terminal objective is to enjoy the food not so much the surroundings.
Everyone has a budget so shop around a bit, ask a few locals, find out where they go & above all enjoy your time here. The sums you mention could last you a month or more if you choose wisely & likewise might only last a few days if you do not. I'm not suggesting you watch every penny or allow the fear of running out detract from your enjoyment, just ask yourself if whats on offer is worth it, if not go elsewhere.
Good luck & have a great time.

Thanks for taking time out to reply. The comments have eased my mind a little. Would it be best to change sterling to euros in cyprus? And yes we will enjoy ourselves even if we are skint, you can't not enjoy cyprus. We love it. Haven't got a bad word to say about the country or the people. It's the only country we've ever been on holiday to. We've said for the past 2 years that we'll try somewhere else the next year but we're always drawn back to cyprus, same hotel, same everything x x x.
