and she also has no idea if the land she is going to be living on is "stolen"

You can find out if its stolen or not. If you don't care whether it is stolen, this is a disrespect to the people that were forced out of their homes at gun point.

Come on Piratis. The post was made in the general / meet new people section of the forum and not in the politics section. With respect if you have no interest in meeting this person or helping them meet others then why not just stay out of the thread. Do you have to bring Cyprus politics into every thread in every section of the forum? You talk of disrespect but show little respect yourself to the poster or to other users of the forum in general with such actions in my opinion.

Apologies for Piratis Neeyt, he's not representative of 90% of the people on this forum, whether they be GC, TC or another nationality. Hope his discourteous welcome to the forum doesn't send you packing. Good luck with your move to Cyprus, I'm sure you'll love it there.

A word of advice, if you do plan to buy, it is best to make sure that you don't buy land or property that was/is owned by a Greek Cypriot pre-1974. There are a whole lot of cases in the legal system on this issue and it could store problems for the future.

Regardless of this, welcome to the forum, hope you enter into some more of the debates in future.

All the best,

Moose

I do not consider the violations of our human rights and the occupation of my country as "politics".

These people should understand that it is not OK to go to occupied Cyprus and do whatever they feel like with our properties, and that they are responsible for their actions.

I will tell this to everybody for their own good, because the "i didn't know about it" is simply not going to be a good enough excuse.

There are better ways of doing it than the sledgehammer approach you adopt Pirati re

But you do consider them on topic and relevant to this thread in this area of the forum?

Telling people what they should understand is just arrogant.

To make out you behaved as you did in this thread for the benefit of the poster and not to serve your own objectives is just not credible, insulting to our intelligence and hypocritical - in my humble opinion.

At the risk of continuing this blatant off topic discusssion. Buying property is in investment terms a risk. Buying property that was GC pre 74 is an increased risk vs those not owned by GC pre 74 but then it carries a lower price that reflects this increased risk. These are just facts. It may be that the 'market' has underestimated this risk but the assment of the 'market' in terms of this risk is made up of an average of many peoples opinions and not just one. Wheather we like it or not there are people out there willing to buy properties in the North who care nothing of the Cyprus problem. All they care about is thier interests. By all means advise them that properties that were GC owned prior to 74 carry extra risks and lay out what these are. By all means tell them why in your opinion they should not morally buy such properties (in an appropriate thread that is!). However to tell them not to buy former GC properties at all, under the guise of 'helping them' when in fact you are advising them so because of your own interests is to me disengenous. People are not stupid (despite the eveidence to the contrary on these forums). Anyone buying property in the North knows that there are different catergories of property and they carry different risks and different prices that reflect these risks (be that an acurate reflection or not) and they make their choices accordingly.

Like I say appologies in general and especially to Neeyt for going so off topic here. All I can say is 'I did not start it' and appologise - which I have now done. Sorry.

No problem Neeyt, some of us have got to be welcoming... things are always interesting with Piratis around, at least he's consistent, I'll give him that.

Unfortunately I'm in England, so I can't assist on your 'friends quest', planning the move to Cyprus in a few years once I've finished my studies - my wife is Cypriot and my parents are in the process of moving to Cyprus so the whole family circle is there.

Hope the perm goes well! Image
