29 sk, there's a real cluster of mumps cases at my university right now, so I was concerned at first too, heard all sorts of things. Doctor said that complications are found in only a tiny case of adult cases though. Thankfully, the love spuds don't seem to have been affected, although the idea of balls the size of melons isn't without its aesthetic benefits!

It's just a mild case, so I should be fine, dosed up to the brain on anti-bios so it's all good.

Dunno about anyone but I find family history very interesting in Cyprus. Although my surname is quite common...I think it has something to do with coming from Constantinoupoli. From my mothers side...well i know that her maiden name meant fair haired (Rossis)...but I am not that fair. I also think I had a Turkish great great grandfather (the shame i know.........JOKE!). Brother....is there some kinda website where u can find Cypriot family history information? I would love to know how far I could trace my roots.

One thing I have come to realise though is that a lot of Cypriot names may not be able to be traced back that far because they have been changed. Like I know one person who's surname is Pentavgas, because his grandad used to eat 5 eggs in the morning lol. Also, I know Georgiou is a common name in the UK because many Cypriots changed it to that as there surnames were more complicated and therefore they were changed (which is a shame). Im not sure but I think I can add a Haji to my surname is my yiayia recently was baptised in Jerusalem. Does anyone know anymore information about this or does it have to be a male decendent to change my name to a Haji something something.

The idea of surnames in Cyprus is very recent (20th c). Before that, there were mostly only given names and patronymics.

e.g.. Georgios' son became Ioannis Georgiou

His son became Constantinos Iannou

His son became Pavlos Constantinou etc. (often repeating the same names in a cycle over 3 generations)

When the idea of a fixed surname caught on, many heads of family simply chose either their then patronymic name or the genitive of the place they lived in. This must make tracing family trees very difficult.
