I am into metal detecting as one or two of you may already realise from my profile.
WHAT ARE THE RULES AND REGULATIONS in Cyprus about metal detecting on the beaches with a metal detector....?
I fully understand inland around monuments and scheduled areas its a no no. My intentions are purely detecting on the beach for an hour or two on an evening when the sunbathers have packed up for the day.....
P.S.
I can't PM I have received PM from my previous post but atlas I can not reply using the PM system on this site..... Can anyone explain why ?

Depends on what your looking for and actually what you find

There is a law in Cyprus called stealing by finding, that means what ever you find, you must take it to the Police or prove before the Court that you took all reasonable grounds to trace the owner.

I hope I have shed some light...

What exactly do you find on the beach with a metal detector?

Mainly Ring Pulls Laughing
The odd bit of jewelry and coins you'd be surprised what people loose at the seaside. In the water even more personal jewelry is lost than on the beach. People go swimming loaded up with a necklace or their wedding engagement rings or any other ring and come out of the water not realising that they have lost a ring or two untill they reach their towel. Their immeadiate steps to recover their lost item is to try and retrace their steps. Impossible to locate a lost item once it hits the sand and out of sight. I lost my wedding ring in 1976 in Dhekalia whilst swimming at Sessak beach. So I know how easy it to loose a ring whilst swimming....

Oh bugger ~ do you mean to say that I should have taken the huge bag of coins to the police Shocked instead of using them for the parking meter , the grand kids treats / fair ground rides.

I'm sure they would have been really impressed with me bringing in 38 ring pulls and 47 cent in coins to be entered into the lost and found ledger on a almost daily basis Rolling Eyes

Its a similar rule over here in the UK..under THE TREASURE Act 1996 anything over 300 years old has to be declared then the Coroner decides what the fate is of anything declared. Should it be declared Treasure then a valuation committee is formed and its decision is not necessary final an appeal can take place.. Now then Queen Anne (1702-14) pennies (1d) in theory should be declared. However there is common sense in the UK not a lot but its there and some times it appears and these coin do not have to be declared due to the ammount of paperwork involved, same as finding a single Celtic, Roman or Saxon coin found does not have to be declared however a hoard does. I am not looking for items on the beach that is antiquity or taking away a piece of Cypriot history just aimlessly detecting an evening on a beach in view of all to see passing time away whilst enjoying our holiday.

You also need a licence for a dog but I don't see a lot of them issued either and there's a hell of a lot more people own a dog than a metal detector Shocked .
