nice place to stay?

holiday lets can be expensive during holiday season - can you rent for 4 or 5 months whilst looking to buy a home?

Yes, this is possible. But to agree on a good price you should "guarantee" the number of months you wish to stay at least. There is more than enough accomodation available and not all are occupied by short term tourists.
Of course it also depends on the area.
