Yes, I was told I had to have a solicitor, which I knew anyway, I was driven to the lawyer's office, paid and signed. I assumed this was the done thing! Naive? |

| not defending lawyers but why should a lawyer keep you updated on the build progress of your house including photos etc, I would have thought that down to the builder and /or estate agent. |

This formed part of the lawyer's service in as much as they would receive 'stage' updates from the developer in image form, send the photos to me, (that was the plan), then I would authorise release of funds through the lawyer from the bank for the next stage.
Suffice to say the lawyer dragged his heels which upset the developer and my Bank Manager, and my goodself!

Sorry if u think im being unfair on Cypriot lawyers, Oracle. But, on the ground, I have to think the reality is the nearer other way around. And why should people let them get their way so easily? Why is there a culture in which people are afraid to challenge a lawyer? I have tried about 8 law firms and Im still waiting to find one yet who is productive (ie putting in real time and effort for their high fees) or who does not leave me thinking they may be in with the "other side". In my experience, i'm quite sure that the latter problem is more prevalent in Cyprus than in the UK. Some lawyers are just so confident they can get away with "blue murder"!!!
PS Why would I want to "beat up" Cypriot lawyers? My own father was a Cypriot lawyer. Anyway, I have limited experience of lawyers from other countries. |
