thanx for the early morning chuckle, can always depend on GR for a good early morning laugh.
So remind me again the raging Lefkosia district? |
I should be in bed right now and you've only just woken up? It's not like you're in Australia right!
I'll let DT who is the younger and more vibrant Nicosian to brief you on that... |

Just out of interest, do they still have that pelican in Paphos? I think his name was George and he used to wander about and get food from anyone passing by.
|
Magnus Yes I remember the pelican too on family trips to paphos as a child so you def didnt imagine it!
I also saw Paphos as a quiet town as a child. It has changed a great deal as I noticed when I was living out there in 2004 for a year. I know there has been the addition of Bar street etc and I didnt quite realise how many brits were living out there. Who can blame them I still think it is a wonderful part of the island. Looking at it from a broader view although you get tourists from all across the spectrum its quite a popular destination for the older and maybe more affluent I guess you can say, holiday maker which is great for the town itself and the locals that it impacts in a positive way of them making a living etc.
So you get a bit of a combination of the two, at some times you can say the impact is minimal but other times where it is obvious to see and experience the larger impact of either brit tourists or residence be it positive or negative to the town. |

Yes, apparently the Pelicans once use to land on the Paphos jetties for an easy meal from all the fishing going on until the Paphians run out of "banna" for the Shieftalies...
Ps: Hi and welcome. |

Well if you're driving past with \Ay Om on your left then I guess you wont be going to the Pres Palace since your kumbaros moved out so you must be leaving the area to go to work unless you're going to stop off at the Corner Pub for breakfast
And FYI Ay Om is even posher (greek = Poshitera) Since I moved in
Have a good night mate ok |

Paphos is still pretty .... maybe even prettier than 30 years ago!
But then I am used to moaning Brits and realise it is their insecurities, stiff upper-lip, need to be dominated yet wanting to be in control attitude which are at the heart of the negativities we see displayed on the forum.
You can take Paphos out of the Brits but you can't take the Brits out of Paphos ... |
You being one of them!

Is someone taking me out of Paphos? (or are you envious I now have Cypriot I.D. as well as being a Brit )
I guess I don't mind living anywhere in Cyprus ... except Larnaca (but that's just personal) |

Every place anywhere changes in 30 years.
In England 30 years ago for example there were virtually no DIY stores, and by DIY stores I don't even mean those that we know today, I mean those that were opened in the late 1980's and have since been closed and replaced by superstores.
I visited Lloret de Mar in Spain 40 years when British people had barely even started going abroad on holiday and it was a fishing village where Spanish girls were never ever seen out without a chaperone.
Like it or not life changes. |
