Greece should have won that match but they were treating it like some kind of warm-up. Sweden are hardly world-beaters and the Greeks did a decent job of disrupting their play for most of the game. That second goal was an absolute joke though, the only thing missing was a custard pie to come flying in and hit Nikopolidis in the face.
I reckon Samaras should have been on from the start and they need to sort out the supply to their strikers instead of passing the ball about at the back. They could probably use a new keeper too.
Incidentally, the match commentary on ITV was absolutely shocking. One bloke started having a go at Greece before the national anthems. His phrase was 'the Greeks are living off the glories of 4 years ago'. That's nice considering all the English ever talk about is '1966'. |
MOTD on BBC was even worse, one of them dildo's said "this year the final looks like it will be won with skill, instead of luck" or words to that effect!
Wanker's! |
They were very lucky in 2004 but it was not just the luck. They also put some effort unlike this year. Two more defeats coming up. I knew something was wrong when I saw the game with Hungary few weeks ago. |
F*** I was right! |

Oh dear, so the Greeks are out...
I know some people say that Greece didn't deserve to win four years ago, but I disagree. Maybe it wasn't the most exciting or imaginative football but they played to their strengths, and they played to their strengths well. They were good defensively, good at set pieces, etc. They put their heart and soul into the competition and it paid off. This year, I don't know what happened. Their first match was poor, I don't know whether it was nerves because of all the pressure or something else, but they just didn't perform. Granted they played far better today, but they made some bad mistakes like when Charisteas missed such a good opportunity to score, and when Nikopolidis came away from his goal, allowing the Russians to take the lead. Oh well, maybe in another four years time..
Not sure who I'll be supporting, both Croatia and Holland have made an impression so far, and Turkeys not doing too bad, good luck to them tomorrow, I really hope it doesn't have to go into penalties...I hate penalties... |

natty you are right,i reckon when a team win a competition they desreve to and the effort greece put into the last euro meant they deserved the trophy, not pretty but deserve they did.
this year was a competition too far.there was no suprise factor as the others knew how greece would play.take sweden ,greece tried to sucker them in by playing the ball at the back then intended to counter at pace but sweden let them knock it around at the back and picked greece off when they came forward.
against russia they went for it in the second half but it wasnt to be.as for the greece keeper i call him "wrong choice" because every time he needs to make a big descision he makes the wrong choice
my cash went on spain before it started and i still make them favourites to win it
as for the the turkey czech game , i fear it will be penalties and heartbreak for someone |

| Greece fully deserved it in 2004. That is how is with Euro. One time you win, next time you don't even manage to qualify. Happens ALL the time. The only countries that managed to win it more than once are Germany and France and nobody ever won it two times in a row. |

And given that's doomsday year that means we'll never see DT again... |
