Can someone tell me please. I just wondered.

I think there are so many:

Michailis, Marios, Andreas, Giorgios, Charalambous, Gianni, Maria, Andrulla.

Makarios is very rare I think.

Is there a special meaning of -pulous? There are so many Greek surnames that ends with pulous. For instance; Papadopulous, Haralambopulous, stefanopulous etc.

Until early 80's, TCs haven't got surnames. In old registry records(until early 80s) there are TC anmes comprise of foru and even five names. For instance: Hasan Hüseyin Ahmet Mehmet. Hasan is the name of the person. Hüseyin is the middle name of the person. Ahmet is his father's name and Mehmet is the name of his grand father. Laughing

In early 80s, a surname law enacted in "TRNC" parliament which allowed TCs to register whatever surname they want, instead of using the father's and grand father's name as a surname.

Most common TC names in pre-80s period:

Male:Ahmet, Mehmet, Cemal, İbrahim, Mehmetali, Salih, İsmail, Mustafa, Hasan, Ali, Osman, Derviş, Kemal, Rifat, Davut...

Female:Ayşe, Ayşegül, Emine, Meryem, Akile, Zehra, Hıfsiye, Asiye, Şengül, Hayriye, Sadiye, Sıdıka, Bahriye, Hatice, Rasiha,...

The most common TC names of pre-80s mostly have an Arabic origin and related with the Islam. They are either the names of the prophets or names of the some important personalities of Islam and Ottoman empire.
Although these TC names are still very common in TC community, there are also some very common, "modern" TC names that increasingly used in post-74 period.

Most common "modern" TC names:

Male: Mete, Bora, Kaan, Akın, Kutay, Hakan, Mert, Kaya, Serdar, Ersin, Ercan, Serkan, Arhun, Metin, Tekin, Atilla, Berk, Cenk, Doğan...

Female: Tuğçe, Ebru, Berna, Banu, Yeşim, Bilge, Deniz, Serap, Asu, Ahu...

The most common TC names of post-80s period have a Turkish(mostly ancient Turkish) origin. They are either the names of ancient Turkish Khans or the names of the ancient legendary turkish heroes.

The most rare TC names of pre-80s:

Male: Üzeyir, Rauf , Durhasan

Female: Sittiga, Havva, Naziyet, Mahşeker, Terin, Müsteyde, Amber

The most rare TC names of post-80s:

Male: Kayra, Ralf, Kut

Female: İrem, Hazal, Sitare, Manolya, Peray

The most funny surnames of all times:

Bulli, Garabeçca, Tabakki, Cabacaba

The TC names which don't exist in Turkey:

Male: Kayra, Durhasan

Female: Sittiga, Terin, Hıfsiye, Müsteyde, Peray, Amber, Mahşeker, Naziyet, Bahriye, Rasiha.

I didnt know that each name has a special meaning behind. And I am also suprised to see that mete is a name. I have been wondering what does mete stand for in Turkish.....

What about you Insan? Is Insan your real name?

Most common GC names are : Andreas, Michalis and Giorgos for boys and : Maria and Elena for girls!
