Listen guys... visitor is obviously an immigrant into Cyprus looking for a job or a student who has recently finished college and instead of going back to his home country has claimed political assylum, or he could just be a European from hungary, Poland etc looking for a new life in Cyprus... You might ask how i know this? Well... I'm an expert in Cyprus and the Cypriot way of life... Having said this try and understand that YOU ARE NOT A TOURIST and as such you CANNOT expect the same treatment as a person who has flown thousands of miles to Cyprus to come and spend their hard earned cash, you are completely the opposite to tourists and unfortunatly will be treated like a local unemployed person since you are obviously unemployed!

My advise to you is from this moment on, change you attitude and be more positive. Cyprus is the number one nation on the planet in terms of political assylum seekers and immigration per-capita, as a business owner myself i get many many many people asking for jobs and after the first hundred or so people you tend to get a bit p!ssed-off at the unstoppable wave of people coming into a country as small as Cyprus.

Having said this, I have seen Polish nurses, Pakistani professors, Chineese managers, Shrilankan millionair houswives and so many other foreign (now Cypriot) professionals who are 100% successful and positive. Some people will NEVER make it in Cyprus and the truth is that if you are a political asylum seeker your days on the island are numbered... If however you are a european immigrant then a change of attitude is what you need because Cyprus prospects are huge for people with a positive outlook and eagerness to work hard.

andytandreou more or less sums it up. I am however somewhat disturbed that ex-pats perceptions are as they are. Eastern Med peoples may have a tendency to cut off their noses to spite their faces but I would like to think that we do not antagonise too much & I for one wouldn't dream of insulting you or anyone else for that matter.
Having worked in a good many countries of the world in the last 35 or so years I have come accross similar issues and a common denominator to acceptance emerges - when in Rome do as the Romans do & bear in mind that the antagonists may not always be indigenous peoples. If however what you say is so then I am truly sorry. I am in Britain at the moment and there are similar so called problems here with foreign nationals allegedly flooding in with the accession of each new EU member state in addition to the stream of refugees, economic migrants and illegal immigrants. If I am not mistaken there are in the region of 25,000 indigenous Brits leaving the UK each month. As for visitor69’s original comments, against my better judgment, as I would not normally give them the dignity of a response, I can only say please take time to travel far more extensively than you have and see the real local people, there are far far worse on this planet and in the final analysis one could suggest that if is that bad “why not leave”?
