An interesting post Magnus

My son is in a similar situation to you.

The mail differences being His Mother (my wife) is Cypriot and I am British.

But he has lived and worked in Cyprus

Like you his passport says British. But I know he feels more Cypriot than British

All his charachteristics seem to come from my wives side of the family.

I would agree with niki's posting that you are Cypriot

Hello Magnus,

Very Interesting post, for the record,
I am British, My husband is British, But we were living in Cyprus when our daughter was born, so in fact she has dual nationality, She has a Cypriot Birth certificate and a British Birth certificate.

I would say Dear Magnus , that you are European just as we are.!!!

I have taken the liberty of using magnus's post as a template.

So in my case:-

1. My parents are both Cypriots, born in Cyprus but have lived it the UK since they were 14/15.

2. I was born in the GB and have lived here all my life. I was educated and work/pay taxes here. My passport, birth certificate and all other official documentation describes my nationality as 'British'.

3. I have never lived in Cyprus but have frequently visited.

4. I haven't done any military service in Cyprus but if I were to relocate on a permanent basis then I would not be be obliged to do so.( Age, Birth-date exempt.)

5. In the eyes of the Cypriot government, I do not think I would be considered a 'repatriated Cypriot' if I move there, a British citizen living there under my EU rights.

6. I can get by in the grCy dialect. Minimal mainland gr.

7. I take far more interest in GB culture than CY

8. My religion is that all religions are a load of boxxxcxxcks..

9. I have a name from which you would not be able to distinguish GB/CY.

10. I do not love Cyprus and I do not love GB.

11 .Most English/British people wouldn't know I was of CY roots unless I chose to tell them.

Yet,
All the Greeks (from Greece) I have met regard me as a Cypriot.

Most Cypriots I have met (both GC and TC) regard me as a Cypriot.

I regard myself as GB of CY ancestry.

So what am I? (other than a right idiot, fool etc etc)

You... are a man of the world! Cool Why should you belong to one culture or another when you have a dual perspective?

Thanks Niki - I was hoping you were around to give an opinion. A dual perspective eh ? Typical Gemini. Have to think as to whether I like the sound of that... and I think I do.... mmmm yes, it's got potential. Thanks.

This guy is not only a nut he is totally brainwashed also. Rolling Eyes Magnus if your parents are Cypriots and you also feel Cypriot then you are Cypriot! In general you are what your parents are unless you decide you want to be somehting different.

Many people these days are 'without base'. Not necessarily a bad thing. At least you can decide where suits you best, even if it's not Cyprus or the UK.

Bill - the Ambidextrous dual culturist! Cool
