Anyone who thinks that prices will come down with the Euro is in cloud-cuckoo land. It simply will not happen.

What on earth makes you think that? Is it the enormous experience you have in Currency markets? Actually the long term effect of the Euro in the Eurozone is to reduce prices, even if the short term effects are the opposite... In the long run it increases competition among member states, promotes long-distance buying (websites) and for countries with STRONGER currencies it has a negative psychological factor, meaning it makes prices appear HIGHER than they actually are putting a long-term, downward potential.

The best example is Macdonals Cyprus, do you really think that macdonals will charge 5euro for a big mac meal? It;s the same reason Cd's cost 12 pounds in Cyprus but 12Sterling in the UK and 12 dollars in the USA...!!! Think about it!!!!

magikthrill... that's exactly my point! before the Euro, a bigmac meal in Greece would cost around 5700 drachmas (this is just a random amount.. i don't know the real amounts) the new price of 4.5Euro doesn't say much, it could be more or it could be less than the old price!! In Cyprus, the "old" prices will "feel" lower than the new Euro prices, so a bigmac meal will go from £2.45 to 5euro... in the eyes of Cypriots that's like 5 pounds and will NOT go down well... My parents already say to me "Don't go to macdonals, for that price you can buy a whole chicken and feed 4 people with it", which is totally true.... imagine if macdonals charges 6 or 7 euro per meal!!! Catastrophic!!!!!

HEhe, that's true. When I was studying in Turkey, I wouldn't go to McDonald's to pay app. 7 million TL. This in my eyes seemed too much. But here in UK, I can pay 4 pounds for a Big Mac, which is more than 9 million Smile

Catastrophic? I think it would be actually nice. We'll have healthier people around. The more they charge - the better. Smile

THATS RIGHT DOWN WITH THE CARD BOARD FOOD THAT MACCY D'S SELLS

Has anyone seen that program called "Supersize me" you can rent at video store about a 6'2 super healthy bloke who ate only maccy d's for 30 days and at the end of it the Dr's told to stop eating it or he will die, a must see documentary for all especially parents.

I've seen this film, but I shall admit that nobody eats McDonald's 3 times a day and 7 days a week. OK I know fastfoods are harmful, but still this documentary is not very realistic.

But there is people out there that live on it and he put 25lbs+ in 30 days his health nose dived and also he became addicted to it in the end, it does show how harmful it is and how maccy d's target children.

The question with "Supersize Me" was also about the balance of the diet. There's many healthy food that will screw your health if you'd take it 3 times a day for a whole month.
