I'll use this opportunity as shameless self-advertising than. Smile
I've been blogging and photographing a lot of Cyprus. Especially for the last two years. Here is the direct link to the category at my blog:

spartan i would have to say that most Cypriots are not very proud of the way Cyprus was back in the day... We know it's lovley and a beautiful place but actual residents of Cyprus are more inclined to be proud of a new 15 storey building in the center of town than a village with an orchard!!! Although Tourists used to flock to Cyprus for the local fruit-markets by the sea etc, the residents will probably be more proud of a new shopping center.

The way things are looking in Cyprus now is that many people want to be sophisticated city-dwellers and not have anything to do with traditional ways of life. I don't blame them and everyone should have this choice. This new generation of Cypriots can be classed as living in an appartment in the center of town with a VW beetle or a golf Razz they don't want to think of fruit markets or villages and even though their parents are probably from a village they will never assosiate themselves with that...

Having said this.... the massive shift from village life to city-dwelling that has happened here in Cyprus is making the whole "village lifestyle" a novelty that is again attracting a new breed of people who have never exerienced it and want to know more. Agro-tourism is flourishing and villages are being "restored" by eager people who also organise yearly festivals dedicated to what they produce locally eg. wine, milk, tavva, zivania, coumandaria, turkish delights, sweets or even pottery.

hope that helped

From my knowledge, you cant generalize for ALL Cypriots but only for people from the same city Smile

I dont remember what all the generelizations were but from what I remember the Lefkosianoi are pseudo-sophisticated and speak more "proper" Greek than the other GCs. Also all I remember about Lemesianoi is that they are extremely arrogant and a bunch of other negatives Smile.

Can anyone verify/discredit these stereotypes? Any other ones?
