Are there any fans of rally here? Cyprus Rally 2005, one of the stages of World Rally Championhip, starts in about one week. More information here: http://www.cyprusrally.org.cy/

Not a great Rally fan but was thinking of going anyway, just to experience such an event.

It is great that we can host such a big international sports event.

Personally I might go to see the opening of the race. Will it be in Limassol again?
However I will not go to watch the cars in the fields. Why eat all that dust just to see some cars passing by?

Yes. Organization is getting better with every year and more people come both locally and from abroad. Events like this make Cyprus more rich and famous, which I consider a good thing too. Smile

Yes, both opening and closing ceremonies are held in Limassol, at Molos promenade, near old port.

Why go to a football match just to see a bunch of guys rolling a ball around the field? Smile
WRC drivers are top-level professionals and for me personally watching the work of top-level professionals is always exciting. No matter what they do - dive, drive, or photograph. Smile

Well, that doesn't involve any dust eating. Wink

Seriously though, if you go to rally you can watch just a tiny part of the route. What good is that? Its not like F1 that you can watch the whole race.

It has its cons too Smile
Plus you don't always have to eat the dust when watching rally. There are some stages that aren't dusty at all. Usually these pass through the river, and you get stones instead. Smile

F1 has no fun for me personally. Firstly, they drive special cars on special roads and I have difficulty relating to that. Secondly, my two and a half month old son can guess who will win the next race - that's no fun either. Thirdly, watching F1 live at the track requires travelling and lots of expenses, whereas WRC comes to Cyprus and all I have to do is find the track. Fourthly, rally is way more spectacular than F1 - cars crash, turn, jump, roll, break - and continue racing. In F1 you just get a safety car and a huge reset.

Anyway, I'm not trying to push anyone to go watch. I'm just saying that one of the biggest events of the motorsport comes to Cyprus and people here have a chance to watch it. I was also wondering if there are any fans here, at the forum, except for me.

Here is a picture I made at the last year's Shakedown. It should demonstrate which fun I am talking about. And consider that Shakedown is not even a race, its just a test kind of thing.
