It is alleged that Goverment Ministers in the RoC are complicit in the mass murder of Black caps in the Republic of Cyprus. Apparently these killings are in violation of EU regulations and has angered the RSPB with which BirdLife Cyprus seems to be working with. It is also alleged that ministers are reluctant to take action for the sake of votes.
I will say no more. The following is the article from the current edition of RSPB (Royal Protection of Birds) magazine.

| Thanks for this article Deniz, I've always wondered what the English word for 'verkes' is. I knew it was somethin to do with sticks but never knew how to incorporate that sticky stuff they put on it. According to the article it's 'limesticks'. |

| Excellent show them for what they are, pathetic human beings!!!!!! Wait I won't even call them human because that's just a disgrace. What could you possibly eat off of such a small bird. As far as I"m concerned they shouldn't shame the restaurants but close them DOWN and charge the patrons. CYPRUS needs to get into the real world and stop saying "this is Cyprus" because it's nothing more than a cop out. There is going to be a big shake up soon once you realize that this is a tiny speck on the world map. |

I would like to point out that a majority of good Cypriots do not condone this 'slaughter' and do not even handle them. Thanks for your reply. You speak loud and clear. |

It is an absolute disgrace that such a cruel barbaric treatment of little birds still goes on in Cyprus. It is a stigma that must for ever be eradicated , those participating in such repulsive cruelty to little birds ought to be dealt with severely by the law. What the hell is the matter with these peasants , haven't they got bloody chickens to eat !! |

Perhaps the peasants enjoy the income they get from the restaurants. I guess some get eaten in the villages too. |

Ambelopoulia , suppose to be a delicacy , what the hell is the matter with Cypriots , there is nothing delicious about a little bird with no meat on it .
My friends and family in Cyprus know me as man who likes his MEZE and his drink, they also know I will blow my top at the sight of a pickled bird that should be out flying not in a bloody vinegar jar.
I love snails and fish , neither can fly and neither sings !!
I also love "ameletita" or is it "meletimena "on the charcoal , brilliant ! |

I often wonder whether policemen frequwnt these restaurants If they were offered these creatures would they report the restaurant to the authorities? |

| i think the problem is that the goverment here has no idea of countryside management. hunting when the wildlife is managed is different than hunting things to extinction. |
