The problem is Emma, many users of this site have had their property in the north taken by force and they are not to happy when outsiders come along and say "we are looking to buy your stolen land, what do you think?".
I am denied use of my property in the north by the occupying forces simply because my father was a Greek Cypriot, I think that's a bit "spiteful" too, don't you? |

Didn't this thread start with criticism of the south? Well, I can't speak for the north, but the description of the south doesn't fit with my experience.
Let it be said that I don't actually live permanently in Cyprus - I have an apartment in Peyia and visit when I can. Nor am I a Brit, although you'd have to see my passport to know the difference...But I will say that I have never once during all my visits to RoC experienced unfriendlness or mercenary attitudes towards myself or anyone around me.
I don't think the apartment was that expensive either, let's face it we're not talking Bulgaria/Romania/Turkey here. And of course the old maxim "you get what you pay for" also applies in the occupied areas.
Oh, I tell a lie. I had a guide in the Akamas last Febuary who wanted a 500 euro tip for å 20 euro jeep safari, but he wasn't mercenary, he was just mad.
Beauty? The north may be more beautiful than the south but even so, the RoC has plenty enough beauty for me, just whizz round the Akamas and over to Polis. And a trip in the Troodos should leave you in a state of euphoria.
So what's the problem? You can compare north and south and find lots of examples where one is better than the other, but I see no reason for the high-risk sport of living in the north when I've absolutely no complaints about the south. |
