Hi Niki
What day did you go to 'Butterfly'; I went on Sunday but still failed to avoid the Mayor's speech! I was disappointed with the Set, but thought the voices of the main characters: Butterfly, Pinkerton and Suzuki were outstanding.
Did you hear the Mayor say that he hoped that 'Pafos would be the cultural centre of Europe by the next decade'? I think I must have misheard!

Hi Lana
I was there last night! What dress were you wearing? I was people watching and so many ladies looked lovely!
The mayor's speech, can't avoid them it seems. I did miss the Cultural Centre of Europe bit. Most cities claim to be this these days however but wouldn't that be great?.
I agree with your choice of singers. The scenery could have been better but the choreography and production was amazing. The orchestra was very good also.
I was disappointed at the people arriving late making the start 20 minutes late and then taking their time at the interval. That was just annoying and very disprespectful. Then many walked out before the applause even began at the end!!!! Is this normal in Cyprus? |

Hi Niki
Yes, the combination of it starting 30 minutes late, the pre-event speeches (though I do admire the Mayor of Pafos) the 30 minute intermission taking 40 minutes, the 15 minute intermission being extended to 20+ minutes did make it all seem over-long.
As for people arriving late and leaving while the cast are taking their bows, it is, I assume, a 'Mediterannean' thing. In mainland Europe, if you arrive late, you are not allowed in until the first interval.
Anyway, great event and slickly organised.
Yes, many of the girls/ladies were stunning - killer heels everywhere!

We went on Saturday and had a re-run of the arriving late, extended breaks, etc. I think it is just de rigueur here… I liked the idea of translating the speeches on the screens – saved going through the whole bloody thing again in English!
I have to say though I agree with your other comments (the orchestra I though was spectacular). I also thought the set was amazing given the restrictions of the venue. I just thought it gave you a chance to really exercise your imagination and ‘see’ the gardens, etc. better than could ever be portrayed on stage…
The animation during the humming chorus was a bit shite tho… |

Four Seasons in Limassol - Penthouse Suite
L'Onda Hotel - Honeymon suite
Have stayed in Both and they are fantastic. If you donlt go for the suites then best to stay in the four seasons in a standard room, live music, great rooms, great food, etc. |
