Beware! It is an Israeli company that fouled up the 1200 meter pipeiline of Limassol. Imagine how brilliant they will be making a 76 000 meter line over some of the deepest parts of the Mediterranean! |
Did I say the Greek Cypriots built it? Its not an easy task. Its not like laying Telecommunication cables, but someone is trying. Lets wait and see if the Turkish efforts will succeed. Perhaps it would be a tool for a peace settlement - without compromising the wishes of the peoples of Cyprus. |

No Deniz, you did not say that the GCs built the pipeline, but I was reminding us all that the same people using the same technology will be attempting a 76000 meter pipeline in very deep waters. If and when they do it, I hopt that there will not be a bloody minded person at the tap.
Apropos water and islands in hot sunny climates- has anyone heard of flash evaporation solar desalination? |

There's about 20 floating desalination plants moored at Haifa. THe solution is simple and its easy. Katsourides just hasn't figured out yet where his commisison will come from. |

The BIG QUESTION on this one is why are Cypriots, of any ethnic group, not the number one experts on desalination? It is not complicated technology. You take sea water and pump it through membranes. Or you use distillation processes, not unlike the making of zivania, using various sources of energy, to get fresh water.
Why are we still hanging from the balls of various not so advanced companies for our desalination needs when we should be exporting the technology to others.
Somehow the answer to that question goes to the root of our problem(s) in a fundamental way. One part of the answer being that our graduates do not want to get their hands dirty doing hands-on research. A civil service "posting" is the only object of their research. Just imagine what the situation will be like when we will have not one but THREE civils services on the island!!! What a nightmare for creative people!!!! |

It all boils down to money. Hence my clashes with our GR and Bafidis over expenditure. Perhaps the gentleman you name does not see water as a priority. I have a feeling its more political than we can figure. |

| It all boils down (keeping to the distillation theme!!!) to EASY money. |

| HI Nikitas, I couldn't agree with you more about the distillation and desallination issue... |

| Does anyone have a small piece of ground near the sea, something like 100 meters square, which they are ready to temporarily lend for an experimental solar desalination plant? If so, let us start an experimental desalinator. |
