The main Turkish Cypriot newspaper in London conducted a survey last year in which it asked:

Is it fair to say that there is a Turkish Cypriot culture that is separate from Cypriot and Turkish cultures?

http://www.toplumpostasi.net/index.php/cat/4/sur/143/PageName/Kibris

To this question, 25 % of respondents said:
Yes, separate from both Cypriot and Turkish cultures, but incorporating aspects of both,

67 % replied:
Separate from Turkish culture yes, however not separate from Cypriot culture

and 8 % were of the opinion:
Separate from Cypriot culture yes, but not from Turkish culture.

Any comments?

I would say prior to 1963, there was a distinct Turkish Cypriot culture. The food was mainly Cypriot but in general Levantine. Until you went to University in Turkey, the Language - Turkish Cypriot was also distinctive with its smuttering of Cypriot words, but based on Ottoman Turkish for obvious reasons. This pre-1063 TC culture is more distinct in the diaspora that in Cyprus at the prent day, due to the influx of Turkish Peoples from - Turkey. In my family home they forgot how to cook Kolokasi. Now most of the dishes contain abundant augergines and other lovely dishes from Eastern Anatolia. Dont ask me if I am anooyed. Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Twisted Evil Shocked

Its my families' fault for having a Kurdish cook/maid. Bless them. Confused

I think you are the one who will be needing a seat belt. You have engaged yourself in a battle with someone well able to take you for quite a ride.

Now, where's the popcorn? Laughing
