I am fed up of listening to fairy tales since 1974...
Our problems in Cyprus are for real and require real solutions.

You haven't seen fairytales till you've experienced the "Ocean Tankers" story.

It involves an imbecile Agriculture Minister, a rich shipowning Cypriot, Mr 10% Katsourides and Omonoia FC who received 750,000EUR as sponsorship for this deal to got through. (it happens to be the AKEL team)

Quite frankly, this does not surprise me. President X is to be congratulated for his foreign diplomacy as he has done an excellent job so far, but in time Cypriots will discover that his Government will be the most corrupt in Cypriot history.

Recently, President X sent Andros Kypriannou on a tour of Australia. Andros Kypriannou, a remarkable politician as far as I am concerned was unapproachable unless you were active Communist. Also, President X only allowed a known low life to host Andros. How can you take them seriously when they come to Australia and hang around a known wife basher and a property developer that is responsible for dividing the Hellenic Community. If you hang around clowns, you become a .....

You should start a thread about this debacle. Nepotism must always be exposed otherwise we will never learn and will continue being naive.

I sometimes wonder,is this nepotism a disease of small communities such as ours confined in a small island?
We (in the north) suffer from such a problem also.

we must try to PURIFIED SEAWATER projects more .there was on news yesterday .The Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources has announced that purified seawater is being provided to the Topcukoy village (Agios Andronikos).
The Ministry said work to provide water from the Bafra Sea Water Purification Facility to the hotels in Bafra Region and the surrounding area is still continuing within the framework of a project launched earlier.
Purified water has been supplied to the Yarkoy village since the 16th June as a first step of the project.

also i knew some hotels are doing same jobs in kyreania .

it will be less risky than bringing water from under the sea and it will coast less but i am agree in one way we must have a gas supply via pipes under the sea .we must stop using fuel oil for our electric city productiones.also we must start to use solar and wind energy for alternative solutions to gas and oil.

This water problem is not new is it? Due to wrong planning (or no planning) the problem has been magnified and surfaced in the last five years...(I wont even take into account the fact that our population in the north has exceeded half a million)
Since we had a water shortage why the hell did our administration allow a swimming pool to be built with every villa?
For god sake we live on an island which has water shortage. There are things we can have and things we can't have..
We cannot afford fresh water swimming pools in every house,we cant even afford to wash our cars frequently.
Have you recently looked up Kyrenia region on google earth?I live in central Kyrenia and we are given few hours water every three days..But on the other hand for the past five years every Tom Dick & Harry has bought a water tanker and is (illegally) selling water by tanker loads to pool owners to fill up their swimming pools.
I hear the wells have started drying up this year and people selling water to tanker owners are moaning because their income has dropped..
On the other hand,Soyer & Co has announced this situation cannot carry on like this and they will take measures against it...Guess what the measures are..They will put a meter to every known well and measure the amount of water so that they can tax the well owners!!!

I have been researching solar powered desalination for years. Right now there are solar desalinators that provide 35 cubic meters of water per day, stand on less than 50 square meters of land and cost 55 000 Euros. sounds expesinve, but 55 000 must be less than the cost of a tanker truck. Or am I wrong?

If we insist on buying tanker trucks rather than desalinators then we will have Mr Xs taking their percentage because we deserve them.

I told MR-from-NG, a.k.a "unitedwestand" last year, that if anyone lives half an hour away from the beach in Cyprus, where they can swim, all private home pools should be eliminated to save fresh water, or else, use sea water for their pools. He argued of course, that he was getting water from his "own well" as if the water in the ground only belonged to him.

you are right mate ,
our politicians only worries about they are votes . they can only play with poor people not with the rich ones .

everyday i am calling to 155 that there is a cracked water pipes at my way . more than 6 months past . no one came .
i am little bit lucker than you . every day after whole day i do get water supply . at least 12 tones i have a water stocked . daily spending is 1-2 tones for me daily because we are all working . only saturdays and sundays our demands increase .

we are looking into the possibility of building a natural swimming pool , which would be self cleaning, need no chemicals. have seen this done in other countries but not in cyprus.

How are you planning to replace the evaporated water from this "natural swimming pool"?
Tons of water evaporate from swimming pools in Cyprus heat.
