| Does anyone know of any nice, clean and (swimming) safe beaches or coves close to Coral Bay, Paphos or a few miles either side? I've not seen Coral Bay in the height of season but expect it will be v.busy in peak August. |

If you like, check www.natureofcyprus.org (search for beaches within 20 km of Paphos).
My view is that in general, the beaches in the west are rather wild (often). May be Laourou beach could be OK for you (but I would expect it to be crowded) but as Coral beach is the longest in the area, it should feel less crowded compared to others. I would personally prefer Coral Beach in the area. Now, many kilometers to the north you will get into Akama and Lara coast. Many beaches there and in most you would be virtually alone - cannot support that they would be safe though.
Hope you have fun.

Hi, why would Lara and Akama not be safe? |

| Everything is relative - I would say that the sea in the north part of Akamas is overall calmer (safer) than that of the west side. |

Depends where and when you go I suppose. I have been to Lara and Akamas several times and it is the best place to go. We went middle of September and no-one was there at all. We were the only people there. It did feel quite strange and we didnt feel 100% safe to be honest, a little vunerable I guess becuase it was so far out of the way. There was also a dodgey looking vehicle which had a couple of guys in it. There were just hovering around, which didnt help one bit. We packed up and went to Lara where there was a handful of people there and we felt a little safer.
Paranoid, probably yes. But didnt like those guys too much |
