He did not quite say it so explicitly, but he was a very angry man. At the annual meeting for the overseas Cypriots, the Archbishop (who is on a sponsored trip to the Olympics in China) said, among else, that we are gradually moving towards the Turkish positions on the Cyprus issue and he also questioned the wisdom of accepting rotating presidency.

Christofias took the stage and he was fuming. This is not a theocratic state, he told the church and it is about time to realise that "patriotic" talk has seriously harmed us and it will hurt us again if we do not stop. He reminded everyone that the Cyprus state of 1960 was based on a partnership between the two communities.

The participans applauded Christofias loudly.

F**C ?

FISC
- noun ; a royal or state treasury; exchequer
FLIC
- noun ; a policeman
FLOC
- noun ; a very fine, fluffy mass formed by the aggregation of fine suspended particles, as in a precipitate
-verb ; to amass or collect into flocs

Yes, of course I know what you meant Bananiot. But it doesn't hurt to learn new words.

Similar to Mr Attaturk's stance of " there is no place for religion in politics"!!!
The Church should keep its biased nose out.

when you reach a position in which the rotating presidency is the GC position trying to convince the tc's to accept it then what does it matter anymore. We are pleading with a 18% minority to accept a rotating presidency....what more do we expect from these talks.

Erdogan says morphou is off the table
Talat says the gaurantees are a red line
erdogan and talat say that the state will be a new development made up of 2 existing states

Christofias's latest diamond was said last night. "We want a fair and just solution (under the circumstances).

those last 3 words say a lot.

Haven't you read DT, apparently someone had said that he heard from someone that Erdogan said that Morphou is not to be returned. Talat, said yesterday that Morphou's future will be decided on the negotiations table. But, Talat, is just a Turk, we shouldn't believe him. We demand to talk to some Martians.

If the two leaders and their official assistants did not speak in riddles we would not have to speculate. There is no point in keeping anything secret anymore. We all know the various aspects of the problem, and we all can discern from cryptic statements, allusions, innuendo etc what is being said in the meetings between the two sides.

So if we know, why not come out with joint statements about the points of agreement and disagreement? What is it with this secrecy bullshit!

It is obvious that most people have enough common sense to judge the merits of a rotating presidency versus the presidential council, just like they can understand the sliding balance between territory and relative autonomy of each component state.

If we eant to keep the priests out of politics we should first leave out the mysticism.

Maybe the Church shouldn't have anything to do with politics, but if you take the Archbishop's comments as coming from a man and not a priest, he has a valid point.

He's not the only man to think that the way things are going it looks like Christofias is going to sell the Republic to the Turks.
