As this machine, using old technology, is available in Europe for €105-110, VAT included (= <CYP68), I'll offer you CYP 68, VAT included, for one piece. If this offer is satisfactory, I'll contact you at the end of next week as I'm currently travelling in Europe. See below:

Fax machine

Postby pcgiannis » Thu May 12, 2005 12:06 pm

Hello there and thank you for the interest.

Why do you say that the fax machine is an old technology? What is the new fax technology, let me know so next time I will be more careful what I buy.

Everybody knows that electronics are more expensive in Cyprus, by the time you pay for the goods, transport fees, clearing agent, VAT etc the price goes higher than companies that buy many containers of stock.
Sorry for the price but if you think is better for you to buy it from other European countries please do so. But, think of the warranty, if it breaks you have to send it abroad!!!

It uses an inkjet system that is reliable only when you receive faxes daily, weekends included. The nozzles dry out, so that the fax you receive first thing Monday morning doesn't start printing until its half-way through, unless you routinely do a head-clean routine.

And why are electronics more expensive in Cyprus? It is certainly not because of the cost of goods, transport fees, clearing agent, VAT etc: it is because importers and retailers are simply greedy. Illustration: I recently wanted a computer peripheral that sells for $450 in the USA and £320 in the UK. I contacted the importer (it was a pro device that sells directly, not through retail chains) here and was quoted CYP 1,100. I complained to the manufacturer and the importer came back with a 'special offer' of CYP 450. I still didn't buy it at this price. Another example: A British kitchen food processor sold through ordinary High Street shops in the UK at £25 - 30, VAT included, sold by Orphanides for CYP 60.

It is about time that the public on this island realise that they are often being fleeced by these rogues.

Actually, if there are service centres on the Island, then the consumer has the right to take it to that service centre and have it repaired on the warranty.

Should the service centre refuse, then thats because of pure greed where word of mouth WILL get around about that particular place giving it a terrible reputation.

Fax machine

Postby pcgiannis » Thu May 12, 2005 4:21 pm

The price is still £95.00, take it or leave it.

We do not analyse a fax machine so much in this advert is a fax machine, it does not need a Psychologist, it will only print faxes and there is a warranty of 12 months.

You don't have to buy it.

Devil, you exaggerate here.
There is a difference between 1) a shop in a big EU or US city and 2) a shop in a Cyprus town. Ever heard of "economies of scale" before?

There is no business that doesn't try to maximize profits. If you think that could be more profitable by selling cheaper, then why don't you do it? Believe me, you are not the first one who thought of this.
