I am a Greek Cypriot and I now live in the UK. I left Cyprus when I started university in 1997.

Could someone please explain why the GC side voted no?? In the weeks before the vote I read the whole 9000 page document of the plan and I must sdmitt I found it a little unfair but far better than the current situation. As far as security goes, there can never be guarantees other than the fact that Turkey would never invade a european country unless civil war was in affect. Now we'll find ourselves in Limbo land, we have shown the world that we are not ready for a settlement unless it reverts back to the 1960 agreement and that will never happen.

Its a shame but if we are not carefull our island will remain divided forever.

Being in the UK no doubt you got all these wrong information. Maybe you should check the "Cyprus problem" forum where these things have been discussed repeatedly. I don't think we should start these kind of discussions in the "General" forum.

i can read news about cyprus online as well..
www.bbc.co.uk or www.independent.co.uk
or www.timesonline.co.uk
they've lots of interviews which they've made with Greek cypriots after referandum...why they said no...because plan wasnt fair..turkish troops still would be there..which is we were confirming turkeys invasion with Kofi Annans plan...not maybe 40 000, but 10 000! if we want fair solution we should make another democratic plan between TCs and GCs...not benefits for Guarantors..!
