HI Cornishbabe,

I am about to move to the North of the Island, TRNC, so no good info for you however, you may not have seen this board frequented by people living in the South. URL below.

A word of warning, I did buy in Spain 2 1/2 years ago having been told all about the good property appreciation, however the selling price we achieved on our resale was only the same as we bought it for. The present buyers all want new properties, and although those prices are ridiculously high for what they were, the punters were still paying them.

Good luck with the move Tony... and with the harsh words that'll no doubt be flying your way from other forum members soon...

Well said guys, Moose and Dutch, however I have already had the "fun" of being abused by the propaganda machine in the South over on the Kibris 54 boards. Mark of the beast, Menelaos, Vidos et al are always up for a good dose of verbal, makes the evenings more interesting, epsecially when I manage to dig up a bit more dirt to post on the Makarios / Grevias episode.

Just thinking of changing my handle to "Carpetbagger- and proud of it"

Actually, having lived in the South for 3 years a long while back, and visited both North and South a couple of times since, the North is definitely the place for me. However it is of course a matter of personal preference and I wish everybody the best of luck with their new life where ever they move to.

Interesting to hear you talk about prices. In spain they have not quite topped out, but they have risen so much that if you were to want to swap a nice 3 bed in the Thames Valley at (say) £350K, you would be paying the same in a nice area of spain. Over the last year I have watched the estate agents windows, what with selling my place, and there are a lot in the E1M bracket appearing now. I think the prices have risen to the point where unlike yester year when you would buy a house and have £100K in the bank, now you buy a house and have £10K left.

Yes, of course you can still get a 1 bed apartment for £75K , but those "nice villas" in the sunday papers, like Cumbre dl Sol at E300K are actually in an estate of about a thousand once you get to see them.

What does it cost in the South of Cyprus for say a 3 bed det with pool, aircon, 1/3 acre ?

Best Regards

In my parents case, it depends on who you know. They've just bought a 1.5 donum (2000sq.m.) plot of land for CYP£25,000 and they're planning to build a 3-bed bungalow with aircon and pool. Ultimately it will cost them a total of £100,000. Normal price to an expat, a lot more...
