I can bear out what cannedmoose has said about former EOKA members . We have two in the family, one my brother-in-law and the other my sister-in-laws husband. One was on active service against the British whilst the other was engaged in what he refers to as intellegence gathering.

Both are as straight as they come (in the old fashioned sense of the word) and have been good friends to me as well as relatives. I first met them when I came to Cyprus in the late 60's which was not that long after independence, I never did/or have experienced any anti-Britishness from them. However they frightened the life out of me when they bundled me into a car to 'sort me out' for messing around with their little sister/sister-in-law during the afternoon of my very first day in Cyprus. I really thought my time was up! Should'nt have worried they were only taking me to the house that my future mother-in-law was giving us as a wedding present, that took the wind out of my sails as my fiancee had told me nothing about a house.

When my Dad died in the UK they both flew over for the funeral they did the same again when my wife's older sisters Welsh husband died, and he had been fighting them in the 50's.

Treat your new neighbours with respect and you will get respect and fiendliness back. Do not compare where you come from with what you find in Cyprus its irrelevent and serves no purpose other than to irritate your hosts, unless of course what you find here is better.
