OK.. thanks for the thoughts.

Opinions sought are of what people think Limassol could do with in the way of cafes, bars restaurants etc. Not what people think of the place itself. That said, I guess there is something to take from that comment.

The spanish food idea is not bad, decor has been mentioned and the business lunch. All good.

So are there too many american diner type places? Hamburgers everywhere?

Anymore views?

Maybe it isn't so much the food, but the service, the location and the ambience created that makes a difference?

Thanks again ..

If you don't mind me asking, why are you conducting this opinion poll?

Are you planning on opening a business in Cyprus?

cypriots are not that much into fast food....as for the location of the place ,we usually prefer the city center.
another idea is a medieval restaurant,a place with medieval swords on the walls ,a guy playing with fire etc......since cyprus was conquered at some point by the crusaders its looks a good idea.....an example is sir lancelot restaurant here in budapest(i mention places here in budapest bc this is where i live and it has some really good restaurants). people will eat with their hands like people n the middle ages,no forks no knives. i think it will be very popular with tourists and locals(it is at least in budapest).

Marinella.. I can just see the tourists on their hands and knees lapping up the chicken soup... could be fun!

I know someone who is thinking about this topic, hence asking for advice from you guys.

I like your ideas sk.. keep them coming.

So, all agree to keep away from fast food? Something a little more upmarket?

they give spoons for the soup.....
and yes , i would stay away from fast food, there are already to many of them on the island.....something upmarket would be nice....
i would also advice the restaurant/bar(or whatever) not to be underground or on the first floor.
i have noticed that restaurants located on the second floor and above are much more attractive to people.....
another option could be a place with scandinavian cuisine,i dont think we have any on the island but i cant say anything about the food bc i never tasted anything scandinavian except from norwegian chocolate(which is delicious by the way).
another option could be a good, nice relatively high class greek restaurant,i dont think it exists(only tavernas and etc).
for something successful a new idea is needed, something innovating.
whatever you decide to invest into make sure it will attract attention,i think this the key......
just let me know when you open this place bc as you can see i like visiting restaurants/bars etc!! :-)))))

Just don't make it another quirky theme bar. For me the 'medieval' theme sounds good in principle, and if you want to rake in the tourists would no doubt be a money spinner, but I don't see Cypriots flocking there.

The key to the Cypriot market? Great food... pure and simple. If you get known for making good food you will have customers. In my experience, it's not all about the look, some of the best eateries in Cyprus look like total dives but because they serve excellent food people go to them. Get the food right and the stomachs will follow (and I'm not talking about the bloated white english ones)...

When I used to live in Holland, there was a place called Flintstones. You had to book up front, and there where two set times to eat. The place is very dark, looks like a cave, waiters dressed like the Flintstones etc....you get a big hot stone in the middle of your table, raw meat and veggies etc and cook away. Its a fun thing to do, the only downside is, that it gets very warm lol.....but I always thought that Limassol could do with a place like that....
