I don't think they'll curtail the expansion project, but I think it will certainly be put on the back burner. After all, the Constitution was designed to resolve difficulties associated with the expansion from 15 to 25. It would be exacerbating the problems if a revisited Constitution needed to be negotiated amongst even more countries. Therefore, apart from Bulgaria and Romania, which have already completed the accession negotiations, all others face an even longer process... Turkish membership before 2025 could be on dodgy ground unless the mess is resolved. |
