or as the greek news said it last night "Turkey was slapped in the face last week by French and Dutch voters"
also if im not mistaken the EU has refused to allow Turkey to put in writing that they will not recognize the RoC by signing the accession treaty.
so maybe that NO vote will benefit Cyprus in the end? |

| The 'no' vote in my opinion has already hurt the gc and with current situations in E.U not looking so rosey and Turkeys membership looking more impossible than ever now due to current factors i would imagine that tassos should pull his socks up and get to that negotiating table before its too late or too little. |

turkey will become a member of the eu,they will find another way round.....eu said that just to calm the french and dutch voters.
and anyway they have more important things now to deal with like the eu budget and what to do with the constitution.
in october they will surely start negotiations with turkey
and i dont think that tassos should hurry to negotiate, why negotiate something that will not be in your favour?its better to keep what you have than have more that will not be good for you...... |

I firmly believe in the democratic choice of the people but for the better, only time will tell. |

EU Presidency cancels meeting with candidate countries
by Maria Myles
Brussels, Jun 16 (CNA) -- The Luxembourg European Union presidency has cancelled a meeting with the four candidate countries for accession, normally held after the conclusion of European Council meetings to brief the leaders of candidate countries about Union decisions taken at Council level.
The meeting was cancelled because it was not possible to predict when the 25 EU leaders would conclude their deliberations, given the thorny issues they are facing, namely the ratification process of the European Constitution and the EU budget for 2007-2013, on which there are sharp differences of opinions.
The EU - candidate countries meeting is set to take place at a later date, between the ambassadors of the four acceding states (Turkey, Romania, Bulgaria and Croatia) here in Brussels.
No specific time has been fixed though for such an encounter.
Consequently Turkey's Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, who was to have represented Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan, at the meeting, will not be coming to Brussels. |

| Not looking good at the moment but i can't see them blowing the expansion away, i mean it would be cutting their nose off to spite their own face. |

I think that Turkish EU accession is in the interests of both Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots.
The EU will modernise Turkey and make it a safer neighbourhood. Unfortunately for Turkey and its neighbours- Most Citizens of Europe do not want Turkey in Europe. |
