Could I guess at zero? would it be the same for many villages in the south?

That was a great game we used to play… the other guy would always be a Turkish Cypriot and the idea was to catapult him over the island to see how far into Turkey he could land. :D

Absolutely spot on VP. Zero is the correct answer.

My credible sources for this are my father, late grandfather, late grandmother, several great uncles and great aunts (some late, some not) aunts and uncles, and an assortment of younger relatives and many fellow villagers.

Some of the characters in the vid look familiar.

Oh by the way VP, do me a small favour, when you next visit, would you please old chap. Just give my regards to the ex-pat Brit Land Grabbers who seem to have set up some kind of temporary squat camp on the way up to the old village from the coast road. Thanks mate.

...i remember TPap said that it was unthinkable to think of the island without a turcophonie, its presence like sand tossed over the whole map...
...i think enclaves like jewels tossed over the map as it is today makes for a workable Solution.

more villages were "Greek" and others were "Turkish" and many were "Mixed"; we were counted by our subjugators. but, as this island's dwellers we are Cypriots, none of us can forget because of our close attachment to its land and the wealth of its History. in common we shared the distinction of being Great Cooperators and some of the most socialised living People in the world. This spirit lives among us even though we have been isolated from each other for so long.

I have no idea and actually i did not even know whether it disappeared or not since i have not visited the place since.
The photo also shows the Pirate ship used in the filming of a movie with Peter Sellers in 1973/4 just before the invasion.Rumors have been circulating since that the ship was actually part of a Turkish spying scheme and the film was just a "legitimate" front. The film has never officially circulated although it can be found from some sources.I can give more info about the name and the plot in a couple of weeks when i return to the homeland.

I was told, the "small house" outside of the castle was a temporary structure built to serve as a base station during the process of excavating the ancient sailing ship which is being displayed in Kyrenia castle today.
Although it was disassembled after the completion of excavation process the foundations of this building can still be seen on site.

Part 1: Thank you both for the serious answers - much appreciated.

Part 2, Antreis: Turkish "spying ship" - hey! we're grown ups, aren't we? And we both know Peter Sellers was a well-known Turkish spy... Haha! I must laugh even harder than I ever did seeing Peter Sellers act! (Not trying to insult you, Antreis!)

Update on the "small house in front of the Venetian Round Tower"

After speaking to the oldest TC fisherman alive in Kyrenia, i have found out the exact purpose of this building.
According to Kemal dayi, who was born in Kyrenia and is in his eighties now, this building along with another smaller one inside the castle was build by the British pre 1960 to serve as quarantine buildings for the customs.
They were both dismantled before 1974.

We visited Occupied Kyrenia and its Harbour for the first and only time about three years ago. Some Brit phecker approached me about buying some property, which somewhat spoilt the occasion!

With your leave, I'll post one taken in a village a few miles to the east in 1973 later tonight (if I can find it).

You probably wanted to say "Lapithioti."

I am looking forward to see your video clip from 1973.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for that brother. I do stutter sometimes in the old dialect.
(Wonder what they call someone from Morphou?)

Here is a vid I posted on forum about a year ago from the Occupied Village of Agios Amvrosios, which is on the coast about 5-6 miles east of Kyrenia, which features a traditional "pass-time" from Easter Sunday 1973. Well worth a second look I think.

Agios Amv is known amongst the suitcase-packing, get Pickfords in, land-grabbers as Esentepe.

Some brill music on this by the way.

(corrected youtube coding)

Very poignant. Where atre they now? I am sure the the people in the vid miss their homes as much as I do.
