PRICES IN CYPRUS THIS YEAR

Postby greekyoghurt » Mon May 04, 2009 7:54 pm

We are visiting Cyprus again this year for our annual holiday. Has the cost of living gone up this year or is it roughly the same as last year.
I know for us brits the cost will increase becasue of the Euro but have the € prices gone up a lot

Some things a bit up somethings a bit down. Overall slightly higher, as is reflected by the inflation as in all other countries. Due to the crisis thought you should be able to find some bargains with Hotels and such, so I wouldn't think your holiday will cost more this year than last year. :D

I think that in euro terms the cost of living has been fairly stable over the past year.

Just got back after 2 weeks in Cyprus. We knew we'd spend more this time and indeed costs have gone up from last year, but I would stress that this is mainly due to the lousy exchange rate. Practically pound = euro at the moment. Actual taverna prices have gone up slightly, but only in line with inflation (my estimate). I don't think there's much evidence of Cypriots raising prices significantly.

If you do exactly what you did last time out, expect to spend around 20% more. I would recommend doing a "recce" on day one - sniff out the bargains, compare prices, and your money will go further.

Bloody everthing has gone up and the Cypriots are blaming the Euro but I bought something in January for 3 Euro and the same thing on my visit to Nicosia last week cost 5 Euro.
Give Cyprus a miss... thousands of others are.
