I really wonder why....

Hi guys,

I just got back from my Berlin trip. Something strange happened. Germans had put stamps to my RoC passport when I entered, but they didn't do the same when I left the country. Is this the actual procedure, or these Germans didn't know what to do?

As far as I know, they shouldnt have stamped your passport at all since RoC is in the EU.

sometimes people dont get there passport stamped at all...its not so much a compulsory procedure. I havent got any stamps in my passport...well, only one from Larnaca airport in 1995...which reminds me...damn, it runs out this December.

Exactly, it'd be like me landing in Berlin and getting my British passport stamped. Even as a non-member of Schengen, I've never had my passport stamped inside the EU.

I've only got stamps from outside the EU, included a couple which cause me no end of problems (border crossing between Israel and Gaza)... keep meaning to 'lose' my passport to get rid of those...

Hi garbitsch, how was the trip? Did you like Berlin? :-)

re. the passport I have no idea either but would agree to what the others said. Inside the EU you shouldn't get any stamps in there. Of course I do not know the german rules for foreign travellers but vice versa, when I go ty Cyprus I don't get any stamps anymore since they entered the EU. Actually the last time they stamped my passport was back in 2002 or 2003 I think. So even before they joined.....

whenever i go to austria they never put a stamp, whenever i travel to hungary not only they stamp it but they occasionally ask questions also. i suppose it all depends on the individual country.i hope in a couple of years they will sort out this problem

I understand why this could happen in Hungary given that they're still a new EU member and it will take a while for the new rules to filter down (plus their citizens do not yet have free access across much of the continent, so that's another rationale for it), but I'd expect better of Germany. Especially since neither Cyprus nor Malta were included in the provisions excluding full freedom of settlement from the new member states.

I think these German officers did not know what to do with the new EU member states. I think they were ordered to stamp the new 8 ones since their freedom to work within EU is deregulated. They might think Cyprus and Malta are included into the list aswell. Anyways, it was just interesting...

city, Berlin was wonderful. I have almost visited every where. But the Pergamos museum was closed, so I was so upset that I couldn't have the chance to see it. I also had a day trip to the Polish city of Stettin, and this city really sucks. How comes an EU state has a city like that. Anyways, as I said I really enjoyed Berlin and I wish I'd visit it some other time...
